Engine insulators - how hard are they to replace?
My 2011 E350 was in the shop after an accident, they did an excellent job on the repair, but when they give the car a complete detail before handing it back to me,
someone use a pressure washer on the engine bay :nix: resulting in damage to multiple areas on the engine insulators, as picture below. I go over the damage with the shop manger yesterday and while they're quick to respond and willing to make things right, it doesn't seems to be a reliable way to just patch the damage areas, so replacing them altogether looks like it's the way to go, problem is we don't know if the motor needs to be drop in order to do this, while there seems to be a lot of space to work with once you remove the air filter housing, there are still a lot of hose and wires going between the engine and the main back insulator. I'm kinda hesitate to have a body shop to drop the motor on the car although they are a very reputable shop, 4.5 to 5 stars on Yelp on all of their branches and almost directly related the my local dealer, and they probably drop a motor once every other day for front end damage. what do you guys think? https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...349159c2e4.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...a24331a62b.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...88e8e8648f.jpg |
I would not drop the engine for this reason only.

although I only plan to keep the car for another 3 yrs but there's no way I will leave it like that. |
Please post an update with price and difficulty when you get it replaced. A mouse got the best of mine so now I'm curious, too.

Did they tell you the engine had to be dropped? or are you guessing that must happen? Sometimes when a shop does something, they actually take the car to someone else for the work. So who is actually going to drop the engine?? Do you know?

They agreed to replace all three of them free of charge, we're waiting for the parts to come in at this moment, the parts are quite cheap they're like under $15 each piece.
they only mention the whole job will takes 3 business day, I think it will be done in house since engine removal is fairly normal for any frontal damage involve the sub frame, I will ask them more question when I drop off the car. |
