How is the trunk lock supposed to seal?

I want to have those on hand when I start investigating because they will definitely get destroyed on removal.
Thanks 👍

I know there's a good chance that mine will be no good after I pull them out because as I started to remove one to get an idea of what they look like, I could see that the rubber is disintegrating already...
Just in general, any time I'm messing with plastic fasteners, I try to have some extras on hand because they're always breaking. I already have a little pile of most of the common clips, but these are new ones to me.

I want to see how the plastic sits on the metal and how water may someday leak thru
Thanks

So this issue is tabled until it recurs...

Since I had easy access, I replaced the foam seals behind the lights in the trunk lid.
I have not touched the plastic pieces on the sides of the trunk because I determined that they can't possibly be leaking (yet). They would be dumping water into another region if they were.
Since I replaced the foam light seals, I haven't had any new water intrusion. But, it was sort of intermittent before, so I can't guarantee that the problem is fixed.
I noticed a few other seals on the black plastic piece external to the trunk lid where it interfaces with the trunk that I can replace next. And there are some orange plastic clips that snap from the black plastic piece into the trunk that don't seem to have a dedicated seal. Fresh orange plastic parts or possibly adding some tiny O-rings to these might be a solution if leaks are coming from there...
