Sunroof drain
I have seen several postings about clearing plugged sunroof drains and they usually deal with the rubber valve at the bottom of the drain hose. My question deals with higher up the line, I have tried clearing the drains with weed trimmer line ( both thick and thinner) and a sunroof drain cleaner that I bought that is coiled steel wire and a brush on the end. So far I haven't been able to get any of these more than about 8" into the drain hole. Is there something that I'm missing or am I using the wrong technique? This is my 2012 E350 with a regular sunroof.

discharge drain
perhaps your discharge hose has been popped off the junction.
Inspect by removing the A pillar cover... perhaps disconnect chassis batteries first as this involves SRS side AirBag.
This drain issue has the potential to fry F-SAM with rain swamp.

If it had popped off wouldn't my drain cleaning tool pass through the unconnected hose? Also it is the same for both front drains.

You have to remove the wheel housing liner/cover to access the lower end of the drain hose. The funny shaped outlet is to let water out and keep critters and dirt from getting in. Personally, I have used compressed air to clean mine out with no problem.

Yes, likely,you wont get past the elbow whether or not the lower pipe is connected or not. I used water and air, but i set the regulator at 10PSI so as not to blow the connectors apart
