Just tried out my Creader Elite and Yikes!

Guys,

I'm trying to get my sadly neglected 2010 E350 W212 back into shape. I have the check engine and SRS lights on and some errors listed on the dash information display so I picked this code reader up to help sort out what’s going on. I just did a scan and it detected 90 fault codes!!! My first thought is that some of these may be old and maybe I should start by clearing all the codes and starting from scratch, but my second thought is maybe this car is a lost cause and I should just give up. What is the best next step for me? Thanks for any advice you can give me.

Mike

Clear all codes, then deal with whatever returns.

Multiple stored (not active) codes are normal. Don’t give up yet.

As mentioned, note down all the codes then erase and see what comes back, it is likely some are battery related codes, bad batteries could throw a bunch of codes.

Check your battery
Delete all the codes after taking note of them.
Drive the car and see what comes back.
Address as needed.

90 faults... only!

One of the best feature of LAUNCH scanners is their comprehensive PDF Report - You can copy it on a forum post.

Whatever you're doing... Don't let your battery drain while scanning or while parked.

Use a battery tender to automatically maintain battery health (CTEK /NOCO).

Many faults can be traced to marginal voltage issues disrupting the various network modules.

These W212 are well built. When timing phasers begin rattling the repairs should be done soon before timing correlation fault codes signal the need for new camshafts + phasers.

Before you start investing in repairs be sure the project has a chance to succeed without a major road block: like bad [trany + engine + 4Matic + AirM].

Ok the battery is fine but it did go bad last year and I replaced it. I cleared all the codes and interestingly the car immediately started running better. It ran ok before but just a little rough I thought and that little bit cleared up immediately when I cleared the codes. These five codes are all that are left see the attached pic. The core and aft of the seat codes are because the power seat stopped working and I had to replace a motor. It works now but it’s a little wonky and I think that’s why it still gives a code. The other codes are only the rain sensor, light sensor, temp sensor that I don’t think I really need to worry about. Thoughts?

yes, these faults are from low priority modules. The essentials are showing all good.

Fault codes tend to domino. When my battery died 3 years ago, it caused faults to cascade, and it took several iterations to clear them all.

Normalization of the seat movement should be just to move seat all the way forward and aft holding the button for five seconds in each end.

This same normalization method works for all windows too….

The other three codes can be from just poor connection at the wire harness. So the first thing is to disconnect/reconnect each for a couple times. It could do wonders.

In my 2010 E550 I had to replace the light/rain sensor as my rain sensing wiper stopped working. It started working like the two sensing steps were time steps. New sensor fixed it and the same sensor is also some kind of a light sensor. Easy to replace and no coding needed.
