Maintenance

My wife has a 2016 E350 4 wheel drive. It is coming up on the 10 year Anniversary when we bought it. What maintenance would people recommend? I have changed the trans fluid and of course done the oil changes on time. What else from the experts?

Check the service sheet for your model. Spark plugs probably. Differentials. Transfer case? You don't say how many miles. I assume you have done all the air filters. Coolant and brake fluid of course.

Every plastic cooling connector. Easier proactively than reactively. Oil filter housing...

Coolant and Serpentine belt if they're original

You are doing well with proactive maintenance instead of repairs (**).

NOTE engine oil really is 5,000.Mi Max - Not when the service flag shows up.

> 50k.Mi is the mark for...:
  • Sparkplugs + boots
  • Tranny blue ATF + 4M Xfer
  • Both differentials 75W-90
  • Upgrade to "MB-Approved" MOTUL 5W-40 PAO
  • Replace 4x CPS + Pigtails
  • (disc brakes service)
  • Air filter : cabin & engine.
  • Scan chassis for pending issues
  • Stay on top of the slow coolant leak developing.
  • Stay on top of the engine oil level dropping.

-- Inspect standard oil leak on engine front passenger-side between ALT & Upper timing cover.
-- If cover reseal is due then replace weak chain tensioners (near 60kMi).

**: Overall you want to do more frequent 4Matic service than recommended. Upgrade basic drain plugs to magnetic plugs to capture bearing grinds.

Enjoy great MB ownership.

Water pump , thermostat ? I know it sounds too prematurely for its mileage but age wise , it may be due . Check suspension components as well . If it were an Airmatic car , I would also recommend a major overhaul too
Happy Driving

A small chore or two;

Inspect the right (passenger) rear side of the engine for oil leaks.
Also, look at the alternator on the left front of the engine and see if any oil is leaking from the cam covers into your alternator.
Check the oil filter and area for oil leaks.

Generally, look for any oil leaks anywhere on the engine. The areas I listed are very common leak areas.

Inspect your wire harness connections for any sign of oil. Especially the two connectors located at ECU. And the four connectors at the cam sensor and four at the cam adjuster magnet.

Hey @CaliBenzDriver ,
I would definitely be considering upgrading to magnetic drain plugs myself.
Where can they be purchased?

Thanks!!

Hey Andrew here are all the info from where I got mine for nearly $50 USD.

diff.magnetic.plug by Dimple Co.
diff.magnetic.plug by Dimple Co.

Company named DIMPLE Products in SCarolina.
Type is a M24x1.5 tapered shape
This stock design self-sealing ie. no washer in use.

There may be other manufacturers and distributors selling comparable products. Not easy to come by matches.

I'm going to pull my diff plug for service in the near after 30k.Mi - I dont mind how much contaminants
my diff is shading as they are no longer chewing up diff bearings.

Sounds like a plan! Thanks so much I actually just replaced my front or rear differential fluid a couple thousand miles ago (I can't remember which one at the moment, front or rear haha-whichever one Mercedes-Benz does not come right out and tell you that you need to change periodically for the W212)

Were your diff oils contaminated with glitters at that point ??

Do you happen to live on mostly flat land (Nederlands) or hills everywhere like California??
This loads the diff differently.

Thought MB wants you to install new plug and seal washer with every oil change?

FCP always gives ya one in their oil change kit.

MB’s of all kinds.
My 2016 E350 has just under 50k miles. When the time comes as I do not drive it much I will be doing transmission fluid change and serpentine belt. I did the spark plugs, coil packs and filter when I bought it.
