10k miles is norm in US

20,000kms(12,400 mi) in Canada. Maybe it's weather related.

It could be more to do with strength of dealers. I was told that Peugeot changed their petrol engine intervals to 20,000 miles or 2 years and it caused their dealers to kick off. It meant that typically they'd only ever see their customer again once, at the first service when the car was 2 years old. Then the next service, at 4 years old and outside the three year warranty period we get, most customers would go to cheaper independents for a service. So Peugeot UK changed to back to 20,000 miles or 1 year for no other reason than to protect dealer income.

Personally, I'm happy for the car to be seen each year as it's a chance for problems to be spotted and to keep it safe whereas 2 years before being checked seems like a long time. However I'm less happy having to pay so much labour charge for what is essentially a quick general visual inspection that's dressed up as a full 'service'. Don't know about US dealers but UK ones charge ridiculous hourly rates (10 times minimum wage is typical, 14 times not uncommon) so even those basic services are expensive for what you get (totally understand the concept of spreading cost of fancy reception, waiting lounges and back office staff across the mechanics hourly rate but it's gone much too far imo).

.
I would not want a minimum wage person anywhere near my car even for a wash job.

In the US the prepaid service costs are:
2 years or 20,000 miles / $850
3 years or 30,000 miles / $1,125
4 years or 40,000 miles / $1,475

That is a range of $368.75 to $450 per service depending on the prepaid option purchased.

Lexus reliability

LS was a bit better from this stand point, but still no comparison to Mercedes. Mercedes will look like a brand new whatever amount years you own it. And yes, my son is also turning 16 soon. I need a car for him, but I think to get some Honda.
Based upon my experience I completely disagree about lack of Lexus reliability. I have owned a 2013 GS 350 for 5 years and it has been rock solid as well as a really good car with sporty driving characteristics. It looks as good now as it did when new, it has never given me a hint of a problem, and is a solid, well-built car. Same for my son with a 2014 IS 350, and 3 or 4 of my friends. On the other hand, my own past experience with Audi and BMW has put me off those brands. I am giving M-B a chance to impress me with my new 2017 E-400. We will see.

Hi

Agree, sounds strange. What happened to me was that after approx 180000km I got a nice and polite message on dash board that I needed to top up 1 litre oil next time at gas station. No emergency or stopping at road
