wait so this is a real amg and not a rebadged AMG sport? you state in the article that it's a one man, one engine car can you confirm?

It's not a hand assembled engine. One must read mbworld articles knowing that they run several forums and aren't experts in anything.

Good catch. I have edited to reflect and confirm to you that the engine in the E43 is conventionally assembled. Only top-tier AMGs are "one man, one engine".

Thanks.

hm, the AMG badge is on the rear-left instead of right side. Is that how all 2017 models are?

Yes, all the current amg models follow that. There's been a big brouhaha about the 43 line at the amg private lounge. Among other things, buying a 43 amg doesn't grant you a voucher for the amg driving academy. Only 'one man one engine' amgs qualify...

Is the end near for big hp turbo V8's in expensive cars thanks to the communists who disguise themselves as environmentalists?

This sure suggests that to me.

Plain old W212 E550 has more HP and torque, sounds better, is quicker and less expensive. This must be the new value proposition: more money buys you less. I'm not impressed. Think I'll keep my W212.

Yeah like you can feel 6hp and this E43 will handle worlds better because unlike the E550, this is actually a sport sedan. It has a much better transmission and has been prepped by AMG. I would bet that it will be faster than the E550 ever was and we know for a fact it will be a much sportier drive. This about it has less power is just utter nonsense IMO, it's 6hp and the gearing will make up for the torque. You guys are writing car off without even looking at the facts.

Not a real AMG.
More diluting of the AMG brand in order to sell cars, that's all.

i think it will be fun to drive

petee1997 03-30-2016 10:42 AM

Keep in mind AMG cars have a upgrade interior, better suspension, brakes and some have a DCT. The sum of its' parts make for a better car than an E550.

C250INLA 03-30-2016 01:40 PM

The focus here is all wrong! :smash:

It's all about the Coupe.... Whenever they get 'round to it. If they do an AMG version, it will likely be a 43 amg, which I was not hoping for. I've been waiting over a year for the re-designed e-coupe more from a styling perspective than a HP perspective.

E550 vs. E43...both winners

This car looks pretty awesome and the numbers are impressive. I guess one can always complain about a lack of a V8. However, this car has so many things going for it that a 550, an awesome car in its own right, simply never did. For all the right reasons, the E550 was an outstanding touring car with a other-worldly bi turbo V8 engine. To go along with that, the rest of the car was set up for very capable driving/touring but not necessarily sporty/enthusiasts driving...just was never the intended purpose of this car. The E43 on the other hand, takes a significant stride over to the sporty side with enhancements which just were not available to the E550. A different car for a different purpose. It seems MB has decided the higher end of the E-Class market (as in the C-Class) is looking not only for more powerful engines (400/550), but also additional sporty elements. i.e. suspension, braking, ESP setup, steering, exhaust tuning etc. Who better to bring the sports car elements to MB than AMG?

scflaw 03-31-2016 01:45 AM

I need to somehow find part numbers for that upgraded turbo :naughty:

manny26 04-02-2016 03:06 AM

i wonder what the new price tag will be for this

Supply and demand trumps your logic. 300hp engines from 2 liter 4 bangers are becoming the norm. Welcome to 2016.

AMG is a brand. If MB wants to have an AMG package, just like how Ford has the SVT, BMW M, and Chrysler SRT, it's because people will buy them. Believe it or not, all of them are in the business of selling cars.

I think both of you have image-issues, and I'm not talking about the MB image. Besides, MB is a luxury brand. If you want performance, buy a sports car- not an E series.

Image issues? Lol clown.

It's just an opinion, and its simple to see what MB is trying to do. Sell more cars by plastering as many cars with the AMG badge as they can. They don't need to. The cars are great and will sell with or without an AMG badge.

And the E isn't a sports car?! What?! Noo way! You're a genius. Plz tell us more!

HBguy 04-15-2016 11:07 PM

It's an opinion, but mine makes me a clown.

THey don't need to? Boo hoo. I'll tell you more, I hit the nail on the head with 'image issues' when it comes to you. Business is business. Quit your crying, and save your insults to when you're face to face with people.

You don't know much about CAFE standards and the commies who run the EPA and how they are affecting the automotive industry do you? (Rhetorical question)

Politics has infected the auto industry long ago, welcome to 2016 where we have to make more with less thanks to a bunch of "watermelons" in the EPA.

You may want to research what supply and demand means next time btw.

Bigglen1 05-24-2016 10:33 AM

V8's are going away. And don't look now but V6's are becoming the exception not the norm also. I'm not a fan of 4 cyl luxury sport cars. I can't believe that the 2017 base E will have a 4cyl with barely 250 HP.

Germancar1 05-24-2016 01:58 PM

Why is it is so unbelievable? Every other car in the class comes with a base 4-cylinder now. GS, A6, 5-Series, XF, CTS, the E was the only one that didn't.
