'19 E450 Wagon Luxury Trim Silver Designo Anthracite/ Grey

Got a sunny day for once to take some pics of my new wagon. I know it's a bit dirty. I actually had OptiCoat Pro+ put on a couple weeks ago and I'm supposed to wait a few more days before it's first wash. I'll have them coat it up with a nice wax as well, then hope to get thru some of this winter. I enjoy washing my cars in my driveway and garage- hopefully we'll get an oddball warm enough day.

Will see how I do thru this winter on these all-season run flats. But typically I much prefer separate sets of good performance snow tire & summer tire- no run flats.

I don't love the luxury grill, particarly the terminator radar plates & eyeball. But I did want the slightly higher ride & travel heights for our crummy New England roads.

Otherwise I figure a silver MB wagon finally qualifies me to go to the grocery with all the other mom's in town! Stealthy!

These mods are nicely done, especially those E 43 style front bumper side fins with the chrome edges. Can you tell us where do you get the diamond front grill and those E 43 style bumper fins?

Beautiful wagon. Have the same interior and absolutely love it despite its nasty price

Talking time for close ups

I left some rain spots and smudges from last night's rain- just to trigger the OCD among us. I'll have to clean it and then repark to keep the wheel hub covers oriented perfectly vertical.

I had a great morning on an airport run, pushing it harder than I had been (1000 miles now, whoop!)- Feeling a bit smaller to me than she had. My wife says they are "Judy Garland" tail lights.

As a founding partner in the OCD, I don't see the rain spots you said are there, but I'm impressed if you do and applaud your intention to wipe it down properly!

I think your wife has coined the tail lights perfectly! They are Judy Garland lights!!

Beautiful car. I have a 2018 sedan Luxury with the same 19" wheels.

Finally ready to post

Hello all,

Though I've been a member for years and have been active on several threads, this forum included, I'm finally ready to post pics. This is a story of a W212 and a W213. This is a somewhat happy, sad, and bittersweet story of sorts, so bear with me. It has a happy ending though.

Having grown up with my dad driving MB diesels ('95 E300D, '99 E300TD, '05 E320 CDI, '09 ML320 CDI, '11 ML350 BT, '14 ML350 BT, '16 GLE 300d, with one exception, a gasoline 260E), I have always loved MB diesel engines, so when I bought my first MB, a 2014 GLK250BT seemed a logical choice. I had even bought a used 2008 ML320CDI for my wife as a wedding present, though it became clear that its high mileage and rust belt origins wasn't a good long term solution. So, in In 2014, I ordered a 2015 W212 E250BTC4. If there ever was a car that was a "soulmate car", this was it. I anxiously waited for 3.5 months for it to arrive. This car has driven us up to Ontario, and all the way down to Key West. It brought our first child home from the hospital two years ago in 2017. In 3 years, we had over 71k miles on it.

It's by and large the most beautiful car I've ever had.

However, in April of 2018, disaster struck. I was proceeding through a green light very close to home, when someone turned left from the opposing side, right in front of me. I was going 45-50 MPH at the time. The other driver was clearly not paying attention at all, and continued to drive in front of my path even though I was feet away from hitting them. It was 45° and raining, and we only put winter tires on our GLK. There was no avoiding the other car. All the safety systems had kicked in, but the colder temps meant stiff tires, and the rain meant there was no stopping. I jerked the wheel at the last moment to avoid killing the other car's passenger. We collided on front quarter panels. You can see the results.

A cop came 1.5 hours after the accident and faulted me, despite no witnesses or cameras. Fortunately, though the insurance case went to arbitration, they ruled in my favor. The initial insurance estimate was $7500. That gave me a good laugh. $28,000 later, the car was fully repaired.

It almost looked good as new! I was thrilled to have the car back 1.5 months later. For those of you in the Louisville area, Precision Collision does the best body work I have ever seen on any car, bar none. Can't recommend them enough. I got the car back in June. On November 9th of 2018, I received two calls from my insurance.
The first said that I was not at fault for the accident. Two hours later, they called back and told me that they needed to buy back my car. I was shocked, and upset. The car was in perfect shape! However, under KY state law, spending more than 70% of the value of the car in repairs means it's a total loss. Apparently, the insurance company had not added up the repair costs as they continued to approve twelve repair supplements. After a week of finding my bearings, it was clear that the insurance buyout was the best option. The value loss was simply too high. But still, imagine that, six months later, your insurance tells you that the car is totaled! I was especially sad because the OM651 and its siblings are no longer available in the US. I know, some of you will say that the OM651 was underpowered. There may be some truth to that. However, in general, it was an unbelievable engine, and got me 50+MPG on good days, even with 4MATIC. I had hoped to keep it for much longer. I'm grateful to still have it on our GLK, though it is a bit less efficient due to the tuning and the GLK's tall body.

I contacted my dealer, hoping to find an iridium silver E300W4 with the driver assistance package, pano roof, 4MATIC, and the multibeam LEDs. We found what looked to be the perfect car, but it turns out it had already been sold to someone else. So, we found a build slot to modify, which would have delivered a car by December. While we were changing the options, and getting manager's approval, the build slot closed! At that point, I couldn't count on the insurance to stretch the buyback to February or March. So, I scoured the region for a car, and while I compromised on color, I actually think that the Designo Diamond White is an incredible color. See what I found below!

Our new 2019 E300W4 at the dealer.

The paint is gorgeous in the sunlight.

The E300W4, along with the E250BT4, which was about to be bought back by insurance.

So, at the end of November or beginning of December, I brought my old W212 to the dealer, along with keys, to have the insurance pick it up there. I inquired where the car would be resold. The insurance company informed me that it would go up for sale on the auction site Copart. I began pitching the car to friends and family. The timing turned out to be just right, because my in-laws were interested in the car. Long story short, just a few days ago, we were able to win the car back at auction! I am so happy and grateful that the car will stay in the family! I was so relieved that this was the outcome, as the car is in flawless condition, with all major services and almost all consumable items almost new.

Anyway, I do love the new W213 E300W4. The old W212 is the best car I've ever had. The W213 is better. Though I don't get nearly as good fuel efficiency, it's more fun to drive, is lighter, much more responsive, Distronic is far more advanced, it drives like a dream, is smoother, and the tech is all around better. One thing, however, is that the long interior (and to some point exterior) design lineage that traces its roots to the W124 is no longer visible in the W213. I kind of miss it. Others didn't like it and found it outdated, but I really enjoyed it. Still, I'm very happy with the new car, and it's a phenomenal vehicle to have. @rbrylaw , you mentioned that of your many MBs, the W213 is the best you've ever had. I can probably agree with that.

All in all, I'm very grateful for how this turned out. That's the story! Thanks for bearing with me, if you followed along. Happy driving!

A happy ending indeed @bytemaster0

A real shame about what happened in that accident - I can relate!

Great how things turned out though and both cars look amazing.

Welcome to club 213!

Hello - just picked up a demo 2018 e400 wagon last week for my winter car. Tried to make my own 'night package' with some black out work just to make it look a bit more aggressive and fun.
