2017 E300 Price and question
 

Never owned a Mercedes before- but trying to pull the trigger on a 2017 E300.
I have been reading the forum for several days and enjoying the insight and observations from loyal MB owners.
I drove the 2017 E300 today and was impressed in every way. The tires had a little more noise than I expected from a luxury cruiser but being run flats makes that explainable.
A few questions I have and would appreciate the forum members weighing in:

The dealership offered me 3% discount off the $58,700 MSRP price tag- is a larger discount possible?

Is the tire and rim replacement option a dealership money grab or needed?

In checking with a couple other dealers- some have some hold over 2016 E350s- several of my friends swear by their E350's and have owned them for several years- is their a noticeable difference in the 2016 and 2017 other than the tech options and the engine size? Would a newbie be able to recognize the difference?

Where are you located? Pricing depends on your location. For example here in SoCal you can 2500 under invoice aka 10% off that 58k msrp.

Tire replacement is always a personal thing and probably depends on what road surface you normally drive on. Some will tell you it saved them money with he policy, while others do not need it. It's a draw of luck. All the vehicles we have leased and purchased (Porsche, Mercedes, BMW) did not need replacement so we end up saving money by not purchasing the policy.

The 2016 is vastly different than the 2017 as the 17 is the new model! Of course there's noticeable difference.

We had a 2010 E350 when it first came out and now switched to a E300. So both of them are early productions. Did not have any issue with the 2010 and did not feel the new e300 being underpowered. After all it's a car for mom. Again, this is also quite personal and as you see on this forum there are many people who refuse to get a turbo 4 banger. Only you can decide what's right for you.

Agreed with outie, here in SoCal, ~10% off is not terribly difficult. Comparing the 2016 (W212) to the 2017 (W213) there are some pretty big differences. The scope of those changes is subjective and you really should drive both back to back. IMO, the 2017 with P3/Q03 makes the car, forgetting about the engines (which I cannot). The W212's are great cars, the 2016 has the newer COMAND system and all, but in the end it is a last generation car. Drive both and see if that matters, or even a P1/P2 W213.
