Scary news for new I4
I was at the dealer Friday with a friend picking up a used E350 2014 for him and was talking to the salesman about the new cars. He knew I was a car nut(enthusiast) and I mentioned the wrist pin problem on the I4 to him. He said it was a huge problem with all models using the new engine. He went on to tell me that even worse than just the wristpins on several cars the piston slap has broken the sparkplugs off in the cylinder! The engine is now a very large paperweight! He has seen four such engines and many more with just the wrist pin issue. They are still being put in new cars, not inspiring confidence. Thank God I've got a TTV8!

Your post does concern me. I have not heard of the issues you have mentioned. Do you have any links that you can provide to help educate us?

Is it referring to this TSBS? There is a long threat about it over at the W205 forum.

Yes, it is a known issue on some MY2015 cars.
Mercedes was aware of it. Hopefully the issued had been addressed in the manufacturing, and wouldn't affect the 2017 W213 E300.

folks, if this is an issue with the W213, and you have an engine failure I have no doubt MB will replace the engine. I seem to recall that not too long ago Porsche had to replace a ton of engines. Happens- and if you have a warranty, relax

Plus, this engine has now been in the w205 C class for 3 years, the E class, the GLC. of the tens of thousands of engines produced, this must be only affecting a small minority, single digit percentage. I wouldn't worry.

There was a car company advertising that its car was reliable because it had a ten year warranty. I laughed and thought it meant it was unreliable but they would fix it when it broke! They have since stopped the ad campaign. Warranties should be if something happens not when the inevitable happens.

I'm sure they will replace the bad engines but who wants the hustle? It could happen to any car but if you know there is a larger chance it could happen to your choice it might alter your selection. I love warranties but I love not needing to use them even more!
