Auto Trunk Opener

Hey guys I finally picked up my new E300 (finally) and I have a question, with the auto trunk opener, can you kick under the bumper to open it? I know this is doable in the S class but I tried with my E and it didn't work. Was not sure if there was an option to enable or not.

Thanks

Yes you certainly can. Stand directly behind the bumper in the center and kick under it. Not a wave, a nice good kick. You can also kick to close

It is an optional feature. In the US it is part of the P1 package.

Find all this "kicking" amusing. My wife's 2016 Hyundai Tuscon, (SUV)--cost in the low $30k range has an automatic trunk opener. With the key in your pocket you only have to stand behind the hatch & it opens. NO acrobatic maneuvers necessary. Just stand there & watch the hatch open. Forgot to mention that there is a series of warning beeps.

Look Ma! No hands - or feet!

How many times has it opened unexpectedly due to standing behind the car for some other reason such as a conversation? I much prefer an explicit action to open the trunk.

I tried to do the kick with two different pairs of shoes and both did not work. Both pairs of shows are black so maybe it does not pick up on black shoes? Ill try a different pair later on and see if that makes a difference.

It should not have to do with color since its a motion sensor and not a camera.

After a time or two you learn not to do that unless you are a slow learner,

I finally got it to work. I ended up kicking the underside of my bumper with my toe and it worked. Its weird because on my mom's S class it works perfectly fine either kicking under the trunk somewhere or waving my foot under the bumper.

Mine was very picky over whether it works work or not. Turned out having my phone and keys in same pocket must have blocked key signal getting to car. I keep them in separate pockets now and the boot reliably opens with a gently wave of my foot.

I've noticed that too whenever opening the doors but not the trunk and sometimes it wouldn't even work if I had the keys in my hand. I've also experienced this in my mom's S class.

its the way you move your foot under neat.
Its more of a fast in and out of the foot then kicking anywhere.....theres no kicking and you should not touch the bumper....

The manual show a nice diagram of how to do it and where to kick.

makris0000 01-19-2017 09:08 AM

I would think it would detect my foot easily because I have size 16 feet. But ill have to look at the manual when I get a chance and see what that says

Bobby4919 01-19-2017 10:58 AM

Size 16!! Maybe it's afraid!!

Just kidding :)
I find mine works best when I'm lined up in the middle of the bumper and 'kick/wave' my foot toward the front of the car.... not side to side. Took me a while to get the hang of it but it works fine overtime now.

^^ plus give it a second or two. I find it takes a little while to make up its mind on my C43. Don't wave your foot twice, once is enough.

I finally looked at the digital manual and it was a bit confusing because the animation it did was it looked like the guy lifted his leg in front of the bumper instead of kicking under it. Also I wave my foot side to side and if that doesn't work then ill kick quickly under and it works.

Yes, the sensor is under the bumper. It works every time for me, but strangely, I tried it with my left foot today and it didnt work. lol

It must be a counter clockwise motion. Otherwise it wouldn't work.

Just kiddin'
