Key Fob not detected. New batteries

Hello,
I have a 2003 E500. I just replaced my batteries in my key fob. It works by clicking the buttons on the remote but the car says that the key is not recognized. I can't walk up to the car and click the button on the car to open it, I have to use the buttons on the remote. Then when I press the engine start button on the shifter it says key no recognized. When I put the key in the ignition I don't have any problem with turning key to start. Does anyone have any idea ?

Agree. Only 1 other possibility, the key transmitter is bad.

Are you using the same battery type? There are many batteries with the same physical size but with differing voltages.

The buttons on the remote work for the car it's just the fact that the car doesn't recognize the remote for any of the what would you call wireless system or the keyless go system

Easiest way to identify whether malfunction originates with key or vehicle is use second key. Only one key, key needs to be diagnosed. LED should flash when key responds to a KG wake-up request. BTW, 211 should be posting here: https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w211-20/

So do you get a red flash when you press the button? Otherwise the battery could be in backwards...

It's too bad you don't have the second key, lots of time they start diagnosing it by asking you to buy a second key... and they're not cheap, but if you hurry, maybe you can use the $130 off service coupon mentioned in a couple other threads, expires Jan 31st.

There is a red light that flashes when I press the buttons and they do what they are suppose to just none of the keyless go functions work. Where is this coupon used at or do you know know which thread it was?

Also how can I tell if I have the sport model..

I'm an needing to get a new bumper. I bought this car after owners hit a dear w/o insurance so I'm fixing it up. It doesn't have a bumper and I'm trying to find the right one. I have headlight washers and fog lights and parking aid. But I can't find where it says sport anywhere. When I bought it they said it was a sport but I'm really wondering and making sure I'm going to buy the right front bumper.

Use a VIN decoder like this one, the option code for sport should be in there if it's a sport.

http://www.vindecoderz.com/EN/Mercedes-Benz

Or you could pay $75 for one year access to EPC-net which gives you the part numbers you need once you punch in your VIN. There may also be a helpful soul on here who will give that to you. You can also buy a knock off DVD on Ebay that has WIS and EPC which is basically the repair manuals and the parts lookup. I used to have EPC when it was free but they changed it last year to $75 a year.

Yeah, the knock off DVD is about $10. Also I'm not sure about your year, but if you search the old threads, lots of people buy different bumpers to change the look. If you have the headlamp washers and parktronic, that should be listed when you lookup the vin, I think for that year, headlamp washers usually meant Bi-xenons headlights too. Those are pretty rare options for an early 2003. But just remember, rare doesn't make it valuable.

I have looked all over ebay trying to find the bumper. I can seem to find a reman with all of those options. The parktronic is one that I can never find the option for. I wish the guy saved the old bumper that would have saved me.the trouble. I feel like it's the rarest thing to find

Search the old threads, I think there was a group buy at one point, maybe you can find out if whoever made them still sells them. Ebay isn't the cheapest place for bumpers, ask around at your local body shop, it's a common crash part so it might even be cheaper.

I guess if I didn't live in a remote area in the mountains that would be easier but I'll do some more research.

So someone was kind enough to give me my cars info.
He said my bumper part number is 2118800240. But all of the ones I find don't have the parktronic holes. Any suggestions on. Where to look.?

every now and then i can no longer use keyless entry
but if i use the buttons on the key, it works perfectly fine,
so it doesn't seem to be the battery, or is it indeed a sign to replace ?
