Parking Pilot space detection

Is that accurate? The sales representative was able to have my car forward-park in a space at a 90-degree angle to the road, but I haven't tried it. BTW, it was an agonizingly slow process! NRFPT, IMHO.

I actually do use this feature intermittently and had good success with it.
A few notes:
1) The parking lot needs to be reasonably full for it to work. It wants to see at least 2 cars before the space, ie: [CAR] [CAR] [ ] [CAR]r. It won't bother if it sees [ ] [CAR] [ ] [CAR].
2) If the car thinks it can fit parallel into a space, it's going to try to go parallel. If it sees [CAR] [ ] [ ] [CAR] , it's going to shoehorn itself in there.
3) It uses radar & ultrasonic sensors exclusively, no cameras. So it's looking for cars, not curbs or grass strips. I've not had mine go for a curb, but it gladly parked itself in the grass median between two spaces.
4) It starts looking for spaces once you're doing 20mph or below. Slower does seem to be better for detecting spaces.
@Rory: I believe you're posting a manual for a completely different car. That looks like the way my 2015 E350 did it. My '18 E300 is completely different -- other than initially setting the car into D or R, the car handles all of the gear shifting by itself and everything is done through the infotainment system, nothing on the instrument cluster.

Surprises me how many people get confused about what their car can do because they have not looked at the manual.
My hard copy manuals have not even been unpacked. I have it on my laptop, phone (MB app) and, it is in the car's infotainment system.

Yep it is from my '17 SL manual.

Thanks BeachBunny for the "[CAR] [CAR] [ ] [CAR]" explanation. I have had some successes with using the system but was not sure what criteria it uses to park. Your explanation is great.

It is unfortunate the system doesn’t work like standard bmw 4 series which asks you if you want to park perpendicular or parallel. When you choose perpendicular parking, it takes one of the cars it chose as borders of the space as reference and nicely back into next to it. I am surprised it doesn’t work that way with MB.

The old system only looked for parking spaces on drivers side if you indicated that direction as it defaults to passenger side. New one looks both sides at once. Mine finds spaces aplenty but I'll admit, the only time I tried to actually use it I couldn't select a space to park in; rotating dial, pushing it, tried the touchpad, nothing selected a space. My COMAND has been updated since then but I've not got round to trying it, hope it works as I used it a fair bit on the old one.
I've just got retrofitted a digital cluster into my car and this function stopped working, it sees parking spots, but I'm not able to press "ok", I did everything, no luck.
Have you found a solution, is it working in your car now?
I'll be very thankful for your answer!

Not trying to be a jerk about it, but this is the 2017+ E-Class forum... Your SL is a completely different car. Could you kindly edit the post with the instructions you posted to let people know that's for an SL and not an E-Class or remove them? The feature isn't the most intuitive to begin with, let alone false information posted about it.

No, I don’t need to. The algo is simple: I run along side parking spots, car finds suitable parking spot between two cars, shows rectangle P. I select it, choose option Front or Rear and press ok. Car should put into reverse itself and start parking.
I”ve been using this system for a long time, worked very well, always predictable. But yesterday I retrofitted digital cluster and it just can’t receive my “ok” command, nothing works: steering buttons, joystick or sensor.

Hey, I own w213 2017 and recently faced exactly the same issue as you described.
I've just got retrofitted a digital cluster into my car and this function stopped working, it sees parking spots, but I'm not able to press "ok", I did everything, no luck.
Have you found a solution, is it working in your car now?

But it's not, that's why he asked you to edit it
Where are you based? Recently the Park Pilot system was disabled in EU countries inc the UK because of some regulations which are going to come into place in 2021, quite sad we paid for an advertised feature that they won't allow us to use

can't test it on my own car as my subscription expired .

Unfortunately the information is correct, at the moment this has been disabled on all vehicles which have it. The reason for this is due to a revision in EU Regulation UN R79 relating to automotive standards and safety which comes into place as of 2021.
