2014 E Wagon, 1984 911, 2017 E wagon
Ordered a 2017 E wagon today

We ordered a 2017 wagon today from the local Iowa dealer. The order is:
Black luxury with black MB Tex and Burl Walnut.
Premium 3 package.
Acoustic package
12.3 inch dash.
Extra rear seats air bag.
4 year maintenance package.
5 year 75000 mile warranty.
We traded in our 2013 Mercedes ML. It had 79,000 miles. We received a $1000 credit from the 100,000 mile ML warranty. We received a $22,500 trade in on ML and $2200 reduction from MSRP.

Wow - you put some miles on your ML. That's going to be a great looking wagon, can't wait to see it when you pick it up.

Ummmm.

My dealer told me that they have a slot for a May '17 build for an E63S wagon.

They asked if it could be switched to a sedan for me.

The dealer informed me the wagon will take 3-4 months before Receipt. I will take pictures and publish them.
The ML had black MB Tex. Even with 79000 miles, the the interior of the ML was in excellent condition. Mud and sand from our wet dogs did not degrade the MB Tex. The nails of 2 dogs 40 pound dogs caused no damage.
The MB Tex has no wear marks or scratches when it was traded in. The ML was graded in very good to excellent condition. If you order a E and it will receive rough usage I recommend you order the black MB Tex.

Dogs, mud, sand, Iowa winters. WHY black? That car looks so beautiful in white and can be kept looking nice with less than 10% of what it takes to keep a black car looking nice. Just curious.

Color is personal. It is a matter of opinion. My opinion is that any car looks best in black. All cars purchased by me have been black, except for a white corvette. I disliked the white color.
I have a black 1984 911, which I drove today in a light rain. My wife drove her silver E wagon in the rain. Both cars are now mostly dry. Both cars have have dirty windows from the rain. The silver wagon, however does not look as dirty as the black 911. However, when both cars are washed the black looks sharper in my opinion.
Steamliner what is your favorite color? Do you always buy the same color? I always special order every car.

Someone on this site once said "you have to be a glass half full kind of guy to enjoy owning a black car." I completely agree with that and admit that I'm a "glass half empty" kind of guy. I live in Orange County, CA. I had a black 2013 S550. I believe that car looks best in black as well. It looked fantastic for about an hour after it was washed. After that, IMO, it looked like it needed to be washed again. What can I say? I'm a perfectionist.

I always try to special order my cars, as I want exactly what I want. I don't always get the same color, but MB is making it difficult these days, with their "50 shades of gray" or black color choices. I am looking forward to getting a 2018 S550 when they come out and am considering either the Anthracite Blue or the Emerald Green. I usually prefer lighter colors, but with them making the Pano roof standard on the S Class, I'm looking at darker colors, as I hate the way that black glass roof looks on my Paladilum Silver car.

Ordered 2017 E400 wagon through Herbert Haemmer today

Today I ordered a 2017 E400 wagon for European delivery through Herbert Haemmer. Terms were fair, as described by other posters here. He is knowledgeable, meticulous, considerate, and good company. One sees why he does more MB European delivery orders than anyone else. Dealing with him has been a pleasure.

Dear Mr. Hood, Congratulations on your wagon. Ours will be ready for us to pick up in July. Let us hope that we are both as satisfied with them this summer as we are eager to pick them up now. With all best wishes!

You ordered exactly what we are interested in; however, road noise and rough ride were big detractors when we test drove a e400 sport model. If you could, please let me know how much quieter the car is with your sound package. My wife is used to our GL450 ride and how quiet it is. She wants to move to the wagon, but after the test drive, it looks like we might stay with the GL. Appreciate your help and enjoy the ride!

Dear CharlestonCar, The prospect of a quiet ride in the 2017 E400 wagon with the acoustic comfort package appealed to me, too. Several of the more detailed video reviews of the car posted on u-tube attested to its effectiveness in reducing road noise from the car's engine and from other motorists, including trucks: see especially the very thorough, 1:02:55-long one posted in English by a reviewer named Thomas at Autogefuehl.
He remarked several times (one is around the 46th minute of the video) on how such an unusually quiet ride made driving the car much more relaxing. But I haven't yet been able to drive one with this feature: ours won't be delivered till summer. I'll be glad to report on this after we take possession--in the meantime, I too would be interested in a report from someone who already has the car with this package.

I'm sorry, but I just can't help but laugh when I hear things like this. This has EVERYHING to do with wheel size and FUCxKING RUN FLAT TIRES! Cars like the E Class should ride on wheels no larger than 18" and if and when we order a new sedan for my wife, we will get the 17" wheels. Then, before we ever take delivery, we will have the dealer swap out the RFT for some soft riding, very quiet Bridgestone Serenity Plus or Michelin MXM4 conventional tires. We will have a smooth, quiet ride. Run Flat Tires are the KISS OF DEATH to ride quality and comfort and the larger the diameter of the wheels, the worse it gets.

I agree that RFT's are a bit noisy. There have been some Improvements in noise/ride over the last 10 years, but not to an acceptable level. We didn't have the RF on the test ride, so I guess it is not everything. I still think the run flats are like driving on bricks. I am also aware of the larger diameter issue. I do not think that you can get 17's on the wagon. Glad you at least got a laugh out of this.

RFT's are not ideal, although I agree with CharlestonCar that BMW and Mercedes have improved their suspension designs to cope with the hard sidewalls.

Definitely think soft, low rolling resistance tires are dangerous for handling and emergency maneuvers though. Wife's Audi has 19 inch Michelin Premier LTX V-rated while my Lexus GS350 F-Sport has 19 inch Bridgestone RE050 Z-rated tires. With a three year old son, we think the ride on both cars are good. Thank goodness my wife values sharp handling over a mushy ride!

Test drove the E43 and thought the ride and handling were excellent, even on Houston's poor surface streets. Drove the E400 wagon with 18 inch Goodyear Eagle Sports and thought the ride was too soft, with less turn-in versus the E43's 20 inch Pirelli P Zeros.

Hopefully the 19's on the E400 will help with better turn-in.

I know that E class sedans come with RFT (and someone in my office recently got an E300 and has been complaining about the highway noise from the tires), but do the wagons also come with RFTs and no spare? If you get a wagon and swap the tires for non-RFTs, what are you going to do for a spare?

2014 E Wagon, 1984 911, 2017 E wagon
I tried to order the wagon with conventional 17 inch tires. The wagon could not be ordered with anything except 18 inch or larger run flats.
I checked with parts and the price of a donut rim is $500.
We have a 2014 wagon which has a donut. I am hoping the donut for the 2017 wagon will fit under the cargo floor where the donut fits in the 2014.
