W213 Night Edition 220d. (ML250 SLK350AMG)
By the middle I’m guessing you mean the entire centre console.
I found mine really tight too
i was nervous. But it does come up.
After you you remove the two torches screws pull it up from the bottom. Mine was tough so I gave it a good yank and it just came.

Do you mean the 1st part with the button that opens the console under the armrest?
If so just wriggle it backwards and upwards and it will pop out.
If you are talking about the actual console lift it up from the middle and pull it back towards to rear of the car. This won't come loose until you detach all of the wires
Check out my pics and you'll have a better idea of both parts

Thanks a lot for everyone who have posted in this awesome thread! I have just switched my crappy black console with the carbon fiber one (Even though it looked a little bit different than the Metal Weave trim that I have, but it was definitely better than the dusty black console). I would like to see anyone who is feeling nervous about this to calm down and once you start unscrewing you wouldn't be stuck in any of those steps. Thanks a lot Vic!

If someone hears of MB offering the console in "magnolia flowing lines trim," to match the rest of the trim in the car, then I would spring for it.

Pretty easy. No screws juat some tabs and it pops out. Use a small flat head screwdriver and it is much easier to lift the tabs
I did the command panel first. Not a huge issue but there are one or two bits from the A/C panel in the way that make it easier to do the A/C panel first

If the closest dealership to you doesn't do that, just call Mercedes Benz of Farmington and they'll order it for you.

Good luck finding the part you're looking for! I'd love to see photos of your new console once you get it

Why didn't MB do it right?
In Canada the parts are $1400 CDN plus labour. I ordered my E43 with the Black Ash but it was delivered with the cheap looking shiny plastic. It's a small thing for MB but likely the reason I will not buy another Mercedes. The MB customer service experience is horrible.

You guys are lucky you get a choice, here in Australia, MB doesn't even bother with offering it as an option.

I dropped my 2017 E300 off at the Dealership this past Saturday to address a rattle in the rearview mirror. They gave me a 2018 E300 with Black Ash Open Pore center console and it looked really classy, especially when viewed next to the Piano Black cheap plastic in my 2017. I was so disappointed, I felt compelled to fire off the following email to MBUSA.
I would suggest that anyone who would like to see a meaningful response follow suit and fire off an email to MBUSA as well as provide feedback to the Service Director at your local dealership. There is true strength in numbers, and the pen is mightier than the sword.
The piano black center console in my 2017 E300 Sport is a scratch and smudge magnet and I have noticed that MB has now replaced it with matching wood trim in the 2018s. After seeing the Black Ash open pore wood trim console in a 2018 loaner, it does add a classier touch and shows up the cheapness of the piano black plastic even more. A lot of E300 owners have complained about this same problem. I just feel like MB blew it by using this plastic piano black center console in what is an otherwise impeccably appointed E300 cabin. The fact that MB chose to address it so early in the model cycle is a clear admission that this was a departure from your "Best or Nothing" mantra. The part number for a Black Ash open pore center console wood trim is A238 680 15 03 and MB's sale price is $337. Is this something my MB dealer would be able to install for me?
This is my first Mercedes and I, along with many customers who bought the 2017 E300, feel like we have been given the short end of the stick as early adopters. There is no place for this kind of cheap plastic trim in a 60K car that has the prestige of an MB badge on it. I really take the "Best or Nothing" tag line at face value and hope MB means what it says and says it means. Please advise.
Kind Regards,
Donovan

Hi guys..
I have a Mercedes Benz E Class W213 and needed some help. I removed my center console to gain access to the command unit however during the process I have lost one of the original screws. It's not the first ones under the rubber gromets but one of the ones which is visible once you remove the latch button.
is there anyone who can help source this original screw as I've looked everywhere but can't find it and dealer is unable to help either.
I would appreciate the help or if anyone has a spare one I would be happy to buy it.
thanks in advance.

I just completed updating my 2017 E, replacing the piano black console with the brown ash open pore trim pieces. Everything went well except for getting all the plugs out of their sockets. Guess I was being extra cautious not wanting to break any of those guys. I DID have problems getting the ambient lighting tube disconnected from both LEDs. The LED housing came apart ok, but I couldn't get the pieces the LEDs attach to off of the ends of the plastic light tube that runs around the perimeter of the trim piece. Ended up just popping out that entire tube and transferring it to the new trim piece. Wasted 10 times more time trying to get the sockets off the tube than it did to just swap the whole thing.
When I ordered the parts from my MB dealer, the parts guy used the VIN and told me there would be two pieces, which I figured was the console trim and cup holder cover. The price of one was $636 and the other one, listed as 'cover' was $196. When I picked up the parts, there were two boxes, both the same size. Opening one, it had the console trim AND the cupholder piece with matching trim. The other box had another console trim piece and it's matching cupholder cover. However, the console cover had a finished cutout, a half circle, down at the touch controller end of the console. It looks like it might have been for a car that needed a cutout for someone's fingers to reach down and release the latches for the console storage doors. The E's use a pushbutton to open the doors, not a pull up latch, so I'm not sure what MB this would have been for. Needless to say that box went back to MB, along with a message from the parts manager that MBs parts system might be a little screwed up. )
Part number for the Natural Grain Brown Ash wood trim piece (and cupholder cover) is A 213 680 23 07 in case anyone needs it. I couldn't find it in this thread, and MB parts departments use the VIN anyway.
