No, but it makes the transition so much smoother. I'll start using ECO when they actually make it "seamless" as advertised.

Never would've guessed a $73,000 Benz could have such a worthless nav system. It doesn't announce soon enough, especially in 6-8 lanes, can't handle fly overs with multiple lanes splitting off of them and often doesn't know it's left from its right. In our Toyota, we never have to guess what the nav wants us to do. It has clear voice and visual guidance. Also miss having an audible sound for cross traffic alerts when backing up.
Do yourself a favor -- try Android Auto. Your car should support it. If you have any trouble with it, have the dealer update your COMAND software. I had it on Canadian Ford Fusion a couple of years ago and fell in love with it. Almost every rental car I've had since has had it. Having the same interface no matter where I go or what I drive? Awesome. Even better is that it remembers the destinations I used in that area, so when I'm back in that area, all of my favourite places are still there, without me having to bookmark them.

In general, Garmin/TomTom have always been superior to any manufacturer's built-in systems. It made me wonder why the manufacturers just don't give that portion of the system over to Garmin to do it right. In a way, Merc has -- Garmin Autopilot is available on Mercs in many parts of the world, and it has the traditional Garmin interface on it. Unfortunately, COMAND is considered to be an upgrade (which it's not in terms of navigation!), so we lose out on that.

Also, I'm not sure about which option package is required for it, but the 2017 E300 loaner cars I've driven have had rear cross-traffic warnings on them.

Yes and no... If the car has been stopped for a short period of time then traffic starts moving again, it'll do it all by itself. If it's been longer than that, it'll restart the engine but wait for you to give it the go-ahead by either tapping the gas or pulling backwards on the cruise control stalk. I'm not sure what the timer is on the E300, but on my 2015 E350, it's about 3 seconds.

If the stop is less than a few seconds the car can resume driving by itself. Note "can".

On fast roads {motorways and divided dual carriageways with national speed limits in the uk, not sure which count in other countries} the car will pull away on its own up to 30 seconds after a full stop. On all other roads it's supposed to be 5 seconds. I guess it depends on what category the road you're on has been classified as in Mercedes maps (though maybe it depends on the speed limit that the system read, not sure what trigger they use to decide which category it's in).

Got a 2018 E400 coupe yesterday. At the last minute I switched from getting a car without drive pilot to one that does have. Very happy with the decision. Love drive pilot. Works even better than I expected.

Love drive pilot as well. One of my favorite features. Yes you do have to know it's limitations and when you get past that it's really amazing!

example- if you have it in and see a sudden traffic jam ahead out of nowhere, don't rely on the car to slow or stop you. The delta in speed is too drastic and it will brake pretty late.
