E-class station wagon arriving this month. Paint protection?
Hello all,
my new e-class will be arriving at the end of this month. It is currently in production in Germany and will be delivered here in Zürich by end of June. I am looking for recommendations on whether it is worth getting it protected when it is new? I have a fantastic detailer living locally who would do that for me, but it would cost a small fortune. Trying to weigh up the benefits vs cons,
Cheers,
CP

I would do the paint correction / sealant at home. If you have a good polisher, such as a Flex XC 3401, it will make the job very easy. I typically use the Menzerna Medium Cut and Super Finish for polishing duties.
From there, you have a variety of waxes, sealants and coatings. Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant is good and will last about six months. If you don't want to polish/wax that often, a product like 22ple VX Pro2 Glass Coating can last up to three years.

I got a full ceramic coating installed on my GLS. Cost me about 1000 Euros but the result was brilliant (pun intended). I took the car to the mountain during winter, and washing down all the grim with a water hose was just so easy it looked unreal. You can check some pics of it by looking thru my posts.

I have the modesta glass coating on it, never had a car that was so easy to wash, hose it down and done. on the wheels also modesta coating, same thing, hose and done. well worth the money. I have a diamond white metallic estate, so it was needed, cost around 1500,- to get it on. and is supposed to last about 3 to 5 years

Thanks for the responses. Was the protection you used using nano technology? I heard this is the latest and greatest protection for carss

Yes. Ceramic or glass coating both refer to the same thing based on nano technology. It bonds very effectively to the clear coat and is much more durable. The drawback is that you need the paint to be pristine before application as every impurity will be embedded below the ceramic coating.

hence the cost of it, it is not in the application of the coating, but in the detailing and polishing of the paint jobs to get it prisitine for the coating to be applied. i'm still very happy that i have it on there. Made my car wash visits a lot easier.

This. I have CQuartz Finest on top of my Xpel paint protection and it is outstanding , easy to clean and durable. Well worth it if you plan on keeping your wagon for a long time. Or you are an obsessive compulsive neat freak like many of us!
