E 300 AMG-Line diesel-Hybrid - 2021
So does anyone know if there's a way to keep the wifi active with engine switched off?

I found some posts (on this forum and elsewhere) where people claim to have hooked up their cloud cam to their MERCEDES wifi
and have external access to a live feed.

unless something has changed I believe all MB wifi connections route through Germany then out to the internet which is why it's useless in the USA.... ..... is this still true ?

don't understand your question. wifi only connects your device(phone, laptop) to the car. there after its your internet provider that connects you to the internet.
nothing gets routed via germany...

Guess I should have explained this a little better.... when we first bought the E550 in 2016 we turned on the MB provided wifi in the car... connected my laptop to it and it was incredibly slow.... did some research and found that the MB wifi connects to a local connection here in the USA through i have to assume is VPN, then gets routed to germany, then it goes out to the internet edge routers...

from what I understand, but i am not absolutely certain, the internet connection is made by MB with a 4G/LTE SIM card but it's only used for MB related services, like maps and live traffic information.

to access the internet one needs to buy and additional SIM card from a local mobile operator

you don't need another sim card. the subscription is added to the built in sim
oyu can buy through the mercedesme webpage. (which redirects to the internet provider's webpage)

Is there a fee associated with this?

I guess I have not activated MBRACE. I noticed on the first day that the wifi wasn't activated and I assumed that it was one of those 90 day deals which requires a credit card to activate so I never did. 5 years free would be different though.

When i choose the internet wifi module i thought i can add a sim card on to it and use my own subscription .
But it seems like i need to use the MB vodafone subscription which is for me is not a good deal because is sort of prepaid subscription .
I have informed that when you buy 4 GB a around €35 euro it last 1 month and you cant take it to another month if you had mb left
If its not enough then you can top it up and they charge you another 35 euro for it .
I can get for 20 euro 10GB with T mobile from work so why would i pay €35 for 4 gb .
Now im using a Mifi as hotspot instead of using the internet wifi module which if i had known i didn't add this option.
The good thing is about a seperate wifi ( mifi) i can share with the passengers. The bad thing is i cant use the apps build in the MB because it only works with the car hotspot.

Here in Europe you can use your own subscription as long as your phone supports rSAP.. Then the car will take control of the SIM-cart in the phone and use this for internet connectivity, your phone then needs to connect to the car hotspot using wifi to access internet.
I believe this should work in the US also.

In the US wifi hotspot service is in the mbrace entertain package at a cost of $18 per month.
