No more HDD for CD ripping- best alternative?
What's the best alternative to downloading music now that you can't rip CDs right to the hard drive? Are people using a thumb drive, SD card, etc? Any sorting/folder issues or is it all easily manageable?
What size thumb drive/SD card is necessary for, say, 2500 songs?

CD's are pretty much obsolete and DVD's even Blu-ray are fading fast. I put my songs on an SD card. You can also use a USB device.
Currently I'm ripping all (1.000's) of my CD's to a Windows Server using Media Monkey. From there I'll package them into smaller units by genre for the car. 50,000 files is the upper limit that the MB system can handle. That said, I'm really enjoying the SiriusXM trial. The downside is the one loses the signal when going under bridges, entering parking garages, transiting narrow streets with tall buildings, etc.

my main problem annoyance is that SD files are sorted alphabetically.
So I ended up writing a little c# thingy that will take a directory, display the files, let me reorder them, then it produces a "sequenced" directory "001-song" "002-song" etc. kindofa wonky thing to have to do.
Really wish there was some kind of standard "dir.seq" file I could write.
Does anyone know if there is a standard way to write playlist files that reference the files on a SD card that the car will consume?
