2017 VS 2018 AMBIENT LIGHTING

i have the 2017 E300, but the 2018 E300's have way better ambient lighting, as far as configurations and colors etc..

does anybody know if there will be a software update for the 2017? i dont want to have to trade my car in for such a little addition.

Do you have any more info on this? I would like to see what they did to make the ambient lighting better.

nashvilletn 10-30-2017 10:31 PM

you can have more than one color at a time.

Is it possible to choose your own color for each separate zones? Or you can only select from the pre set color schemes?

nashvilletn 10-31-2017 12:01 AM

Pretty sure you can select colors.

So we can have any color combination that we like?

MB are having software issues with the 2018 ambient lighting package...stick with what you've got for now!!

dfskinner 10-31-2017 10:18 AM

Still learning about our 2017..... I'm guessing I can not change the colors unless I have the software and additional lighting.... don't have the selection on the screen

I have a 2018 E400. It does nit have the menu or multicolor option shown in the video. Just one color everywhere with the 64 color choices.

BeoBenz 10-31-2017 01:21 PM

Looked at manuals online. E300 manual shows the multicolor feature as well as a couple other features. The E400 manual does not.

petee1997 10-31-2017 04:27 PM

I just checked my car, an 18 E43, and it shows the multi color.

BeoBenz 10-31-2017 04:35 PM

Owner’s manual for E cabriolet also shows the feature. So seems sedans and cabriolets have it but not coupes? I am checking with dealer to see if there is a software update available.

I got E350 2018
anyone know how to stop the automatic color change?? And why when i enter the car the ambient lighting do not work?

No ive become bitter after watching the new feature and now want it. I feel like I got a half ready car and now the full features are coming out.

petee1997 11-01-2017 05:02 AM

Get over it. These cars are a work in progress and there are always minor improvements from year to year. These small minor changes are inconsequential and are not worth losing sleep over them.

mickhoog 11-01-2017 05:07 AM

It was good to see it on the video. I thought back when i got the car that it would be good to do this, but it’s no biggie that i cant. Nice feature though.

I can't imagine your reaction when the face lift version is released in a few years.

E43uk 11-01-2017 11:43 AM

The new multicolour feature isn’t anything spectacular...there are 10ish pre-set alternatives...i prefer having the one colour...all blue or perhaps all red once in a while......never used any of the multicolour options.

Thats not the point, if you have seen Tesla, they send updates to all of there cars over the air. Why cant we get the same updates, my dealer wont even update my navigation from version 1.7 or whatever it is to the 4.0 that the newer build 2017 models have. They claim that there is no update. We paid alot for these cars and expect support, You expect this type of upgrade in cars with a facelift.

Mbracer26 11-01-2017 03:30 PM

Also, just noticed the navigation is also different, it has a option for a weather overlay. Can we get that with navigation update???

I do agree with your point and I sure hope MB will give free software updates and map updates over the production life cycle of the car.

just talked to the MBUSA rep, its more than just software, theres more control modules in there. so in short - no we cant just update the software.

I wonder which control module it is and how hard it is to install it, probably needs software as well. Thanks for following up on this.

Actually...be glad that MB doesn't do this. So much of the tech industry's mindset is, "Get the product out the door in time for the launch date. We'll fix the bugs in a software update." The easier it is for them to update the cars, the more problems will be put off "for the next update." Tesla's had a few bad updates brick some cars, and even Lexus had a few updates screw up radios. There are enough moving parts & electronic systems in a Mercedes to go wrong. The last thing I want to deal with is waking up to a dead car due to a bad software update.

Haha, My car has spent 5 months in the dealership and its still not right. So many QC issues with it, it still rattles and has wind noise, the windshield wiper blades haven't even stopped chattering. They dont spend enough time doing research and make the customer cars into beta research vehicles, which is not acceptable.
