In the 2018 W213 are there multiple independent CAN buses that are not interconnected and cannot be accessed via the OBD II connector? Is it possible to access the CAN bus via one of the USB ports instead of the OBD II connector? Is there a source for Mercedes 2018 W213 non-standard PID codes and descriptions that is inexpensive?

No-----there are various CAN systems on your car and are accessed via SDscan or any other CAN analyzer---what are you doing putzing around with a 18 car

I'm a lifelong hacker who started coding computers back in the 1960's when they took up an entire building. I like to browse computer controlled devices including vehicles, cellphones, etc. Right now I'm interested in figuring out where certain COMMAND settings are manipulated and stored.

I think that you will be best served when you review all the WIS docs associated with your VIN for COMMAND---it will explain the logic and how the COMMAND is integrated into the car system. FYI there are thousands of hacked WIS copies available on ebay and others. Then purchase a CAN analyzer and putz away!!

I have not found a viable WIS for a 2018 model for less than $100. That's too much just for play. Do you have a good link?
I already own an ELM327 device with ScanMaster software.

WIS is not really helping for CAN messaging. It does cover wiring diagrams and the networking of all CANs (and flexrays) though.
