Can Wireless Charger be installed at dealer?

Can the wireless charger option be added if the car did not come with it from factory? I am not talking about the aftermarket options

ua549 02-22-2018 04:49 PM

Are you sure you don't have it as standard? I do not see it as an option or in a package on Mercedes-Benz.ca.

thefisch 02-22-2018 06:20 PM

I know you're not talking about aftermarket options, but the OEM implementation is pretty poor IMO if you have a larger phone. Besides you can't see the screen and the charge rate is slow but that may not matter to most.

petee1997 02-22-2018 06:45 PM

It was a $150.00 option on my car. I have a iPhone 8 and it works quite well. I think there could be an issue for the larger phones which may be too large for the charging pad.

Check the data card for your VIN. The item is 897 WIRELESS TELEPHONE CHARGING FRT. A dealer service advisor can get a definitive answer for you.

Thanks for all your feedback. I was told by the dealer that it cannot be added if it is not there from the factory. I just wanted to confirm as I found it hard to believe. Oh well I guess I will have to live with it :(

It can be added, I have the parts in my garage, just havnt had time to fit them.

If you post the steps to install this with part no. I will be forever in you debt :)

cokenfries 03-22-2018 01:10 AM

Would it be possible for you to give me the part numbers and I can try getting it installed on my car?

Anyone have updated link for this?

Egonvdv 04-26-2019 08:15 AM

today i did a DIY, within 5 minutes

bought this for my phone 6: https://www.amazon.fr/R%C3%A9cepteur...6280689&sr=8-9

and this for th car: https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

put the charge pad right in the middle of the storage area (it's very deep so too far to the front or too far too back will risk the phone not charging when it slides),

and presto!

Interesting. Have an S9 and currently plug it in to the usb socket in the armrest. Would the charger operate from the usb socket in the centre armrest?

Of course - usb will charge from any socket

parkwood 05-10-2019 05:46 PM

Sadly not here in france. Only 1 socket of the 2 usb has power, the other 1 is data only. In the the c class both were data only! Real pain as you had to get an adapter to charge the phone from the 12v as egonrdv has done with the qi charger.
Connecting the phone via the powered usb does also mean the car can acess the phone data as it is hardwired.
Frustrating as normally usb does charge but not always as in this case and indeed some computers push out too little power these days to charge phones or battery packs.
I love technology but sometimes it just all gets too variable or flaky to be fun!

In my 2018 E400S the iPhone XR also fits and charges on the OEM mat, even when the phone is in a protective case. I was pleasantly surprised. The 8 plus and Xmax won't fit in 2018 models. Not sure if the mat is bigger in 2019 and 2020.

Yeah you might be able to get power from the USB. In my GLE I could not get either of the two USBs in the center armrest to power a radar.

Egonvdv 05-13-2019 06:00 AM

i have to disagree, both usb's in armrest provide power in my car

this is also a nice solution though personally i don't want to keep my phone in the armrest:

I recommend this product

Egonvdv 05-14-2019 03:25 AM

that's pretty much what I did only 8 times more expensive...

parkwood 05-19-2019 11:57 AM

Thanks for heads up egonvdv. I assumed cos the c usb sockets did not charge and the e manual referred to using the usb marked with the logo to charge the other was data only as in the c class.

One should never rely on assumptions.........

In the 2019 models, they enlarged the charging mat, which fits my iPhone Xs Max (even with a case). But I really don't ever use it, because the screen is hidden and the phone has to be pulled out if you need to touch the screen. I'm glad it came standard on US Models, because I wouldn't pay for it otherwise.

Instead, I have a Weather Tech phone cup cradle, which when my phone is securely in it and connected via USB to the Car Play port next to it, which much better for me.

In my 2019 model 450 they enlarged the charging mat, which fits my Samsung Galaxy S8(even with a case).
I use it always, because I don’t text and drive and calls can be answered with it in position.

One can use voice to receive and send text messages as long as the phone is connected via Bluetooth.

rbrylaw 05-20-2019 09:21 AM

I NEVER text and drive. Using the Phone Cup thingy however, does let me use my phone when at a stop light or parked more easily.
