Phones too big for charging pad
Anyone else have this problem? My LG V20 is just a bit too big for the charging pad in my 2017 E 300. I tried pulling the cup holder but that didn't help. Has anyone found a workaround other than using a USB cable?

My LG G6 is too big to fit in there with the case on so I could see that the larger V series are too big without a case.
Did you mean V30? The V20 didn't have wireless charging that I recall unless you're using an accessory. Maybe I'm mistaken.

I'm not really a phone buff, but I did want to make sure my next phone had that feature so I had done some research on which ones had it built in. I used one of those add-on coils for my LG G5, but mine charged too slow with it to be worth it whereas my Samsung GS6 (with built in QI) charged more than twice as fast. Hopefully now that Apple joined Samsung in building in wireless charging, we will see it on more phones going forward.

I guess I need a bigger car, or a smaller phone. I stopped buy new phones (and new cars) because I had a bad habit of doing stupid things like swimming with them. Also, I wanted a phone with replaceable batteries and an SD slot. The Note 4 would have been my choice except Samsung switched to non-replaceable batteries with the 4.
I think I'll just use the USB plugin and ditch the wireless for now.

While not identical, my 18 E400 coupe has the wireless charging and my iPhone 8 Plus barely fits. I don’t think it lays completely flat, but it will charge. I don’t think it would fit a phone any larger.

I am no expert on wireless charging, but I've read that charging efficiency is hurt by the distance between the charging pad and the charging coil in the phone. So, theoretically, the larger the gap created by a case or perhaps the phone not laying completely flat on the pad, the slower the charging rate will be. Of course it needs to be close enough for the sensor to detect the charging pad at first.

@thefisch: You are 100% correct. I have a couple of users idiots in my office who I've explained this to numerous times, then they put their phone in a wallet/clutch or put a stick-on business card holder full of business cards on the back of it, then file trouble tickets that their phone won't charge wirelessly anymore.

I've only had it for less than a week, but I love my E-300 with the P3 package. It's amazing, and easily the best car I've ever owned. However, the charging pad is not only too small for today's phablets, but it's also in a terrible spot that prevents me from seeing its screen, and it's proximity to beverages placed in the adjacent cup holders is mind boggling. Relatively small complaints really, but one's that could have been avoided, and can be easily remedied in future editions.

Wireless charging in automobiles will always face challenges and brings to mind that old proverb: “You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time”.
I too have found myself rearranging beverages or items in the console to access the phone.
There are so many phone design packages and there are safety / design factors with wireless charging. Also consider that cup holders are an inigma to many Europeans.
I agree with the above post, the engineers or approving managers for the console package assumed the phone would be placed on the charger, Bluetooth integration set, and left for the duration of the drive. The scenarios where someone would need frequent access to the phone while on the charger, while driving with your favorite beverage at hand would be limited.
Even the corded charger/interface cable on our GLk is short. Only long enough to facilitate connecting the device and placing it in the console.
