Selective Damping on E400 Wagon
I purchased my E400 4MATIC WAGON a few weeks ago. Since then I've been trying to understanding exactly what suspension setup I have. On the window sticker it says "lowered suspension selective damping". So, I know it's not Air Body Control, or Dynamic Control, and I think I know that all wagons have self-leveling suspension at the rear. But what exactly does the selective damping do, and what's the interaction with the settings I can dial up: Comfort, Eco, Sport, Sport+? Are there any Wagon owners - or others - who have a good understanding of this? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for this, Konigstiger. I couldn't find anything so clear on the web for the wagon. I guess I can infer that there is no interaction with Eco, Comfort, Sport, etc. Can anyone confirm the self-leveling rear suspension on the wagon?

My Bad! I've just found the confirmation on an MB site. It's pretty clear that there is a standard self-leveling rear air suspension! I must have been confused by my selective damping issues.

I have a basic question: If you have the lowered suspension with selective damping (and the corresponding 15 mm drop in ride height) do you also get auto leveling?
If so, I would assume that the rear would be some type of air bag that would raise the car as needed. But "at rest" it would be 15mm lower than standard.
If not, how is auto leveling done? I can clearly see how it would work with Air Matic, but how does auto leveling work on the SW?
Auto leveling is a great idea for wagons. I have it on my 2006 E500 4Matic SW and it works great (until a bag went bad and it was $500 for the bag and $250 to install it - and that was the best possible price). It's time for a new wagon....andt this is a significant point.

I was just about to confirm this. The rear has air struts and is self-leveling. So it tries to stay always at the 15mm lower level. I’m afraid I don’t know the exact mechanism
i do agree that this is vital on a wagon.
On a on a different note, how do you find the tire pressures play with self leveling suspension? I find the rear 38psi too hard for light loading (usually driver plus passenger plus 60lb dog in the back). Any thoughts from wagon owners?
