Dab+ (FYI for non US owners)
Hi all.
FYI, I will have the dab+ option retrofitted in a MB dealership on my s213 due to a bad reception on my FM radio (in Belgium)
They will install it for about 280 euro. They will only do it as an un-official upgrade, not supported by MB officially, I had to provide them the part numbers which I provided them through German forums.
Comparing to the 500 euro asked as an option when ordering this in a new car, this is quite nice to have it cheaper now.
What they need to do is change 2 radio amplifiers in the back of the car and turn on the dab option by coding it in though the odb port.
It I'll be installed on the 4th of July and will keep you posted if interested.

Not exactly. DAB+ is completely independent of FM radio. It is much more efficient utilizing bandwidth, etc. HD FM is an add-on accessory to analog FM radio. It has all the inefficiencies of analog broadcasting.

Exactly, it uses a digital audio signal and not an FM signal for better and more stable audio quality (think cassettes tape and CD's here) Also means the radio doesn't need to retune as you move from transmitter to transmitter so you can have more stations. DAB+ just refers to the second generation of DAB and is the latest standard.

DAB+ is Digital Audio Broadcasting.
It reduces the quality for each new radio channel broadcasted in the same frequency area.
It's the only option for the national channels in Norway, it sucks. It's also very demanding to build DAB+ with the same geographical coverage as FM, so the result is that on a trip from Tromsø to Oslo (1700km) you will have between 4 and 5 hours out of 22 without radio signals..

That's exactly why I have continued my subscription to satellite radio (SiriusXM). FM signals and DAB are strictly line of sight that are limited by the curvature of the Earth. FM radio reception from a ground station is only good for about 40 miles.

Well, neither FM or DAB/DAB+ is strictly in line of sight as radio signals also consists of waves that curves some.
I would believe that satellite radio is no good with a lot of tunnels.. 73 of the tunnels in norway is more than 3km (approx 2 miles) long. In total we have approx 1300 tunnels on the main roads with a total length of 8-900km out of approx 28000km main roads in total.
Anyway, FM works great and was a good solution. DAB+ sucks.

Fortunately Florida has no tunnels and is very flat. That said, we lose satellite signals in the almost daily rains (sat TV isn't reliable) and when driving under tree canopies. Many FM stations do not completely cover our metro area due to that 40 mile distance. Our metro area is about 70 miles by 30 miles or about 2100 square miles. Recently our classical music FM stations relocated to the south end of the metro area. I'm in the north and can no longer receive them.

Hi,
I went through MB Mechelen, did take a little bit longer than expected, about +/- 2h30.
It was their first time that they did fit it, but were willing to try without issues. (Mercedes Europa in Brussels was NO HELP AT ALL, they even claimed it was absolutely impossible).
Part numbers should be:=startA213 905 6500
A213 905 6800
I was in contact with Laurens Werdefroy. Price finally came to +/- 340 euro.
If you want his email, please send me a PB.
The only drawback is that your (personal) settings are reset on the navigation, I think you can make a backup that you can put back later.
It takes about 30sec to switch from FM to DAB at a cold start. And it is a major improvement over FM.
Let me know if you need more info.

It is in fact standard in some markets, Norway has it as standard.
DAB+ is really not good anyways. The sound quality is not good and there are some serious issues in countries with a lot of tunnels.
I do really miss FM radio (next to nothing is sent on FM in Norway)

Here DAB+ is a option. I can not understand Mercedes , small cars from other brands have dab+ standard.
Anyway, the quality of reception in my car was poor on FM, now with dab+ it is perfect. The coverage of dab+ in Belgium is very good and is still growing .

DAB+
Hi,
I bought a new E200 late 2010, which means without DAB+.
The price of integrated DAB+ will cost about 1600 EURO mounted at MB workshop.
Compared to what you paid for DAB+, it is like heaven and hell.
Therefor I have made up my mind to try to do the most of it by myself, and then I wonder if you will help me with information about the parts regarding the DAB+.
Name, price, and where to buy. Or if I can contact the MB dealership where you got it installed.
Regards
Nils

One question. Except 2 DAB receivers and the coding, is there any harness that needs to be installed/changed? Thanks in advance.

Yes, coverage in the UK is also good. Also the quality is better than FM. When you start to lose signal on FM (say on a long journey) the noise is awful. In rare case where you lose the DAB+ signal, you just get silence, which is much less jarring.

Maybe you can check here, https://www.motor-talk.de/forum/dab-...listJumpMarker
I don't think they need to change the wiring.
But I do think that coding can only be done at the dealership. If I'm correct, this is the longest part.
