Sept 2019- European Delivery E53
To those of you that have noticed when model years start and stop production... if we wanted to do a European Delivery on a new E53 in September, 2019 (a year from now)- do you think the car would be a 2019 or 2020? Can you get a car that late via European Delivery? Thanks in advance- I know it's speculation at this point. John

Mercedes have just started producing cars with code 809 (so either June or July 2018 onwards depending on Br) [01 June 18 in the case of 213 and 238 models] which means they are the latest 2019 models. If you want a 2020 model then you will have to wait until summer 2019. The reason for this is that in (Europe at least) factories tend to shut down for a short period in either July or August to coincide with school holidays to allow for either maintenance or installation of new tooling for new models. When they re-open they then start production for models designated for the following calendar year. The intoriduction of 2019 models this year is slightly earlier than normal as manufacturers need to start producing cars that are WLP compliant as in those markets which have adopted this standard these are the only cars that can be sold after 01 Sep 19.

I hoped somebody that knows as much as you would reply THANK YOU.
I really don't care so much if it's a 2019 or 2020 model year- since I doubt much will change on the new E53 model... but... I'd rather be in Germany in a warmer month (September, October) than a colder one (being from Southern California). So does these seem approximately right? order July 1, 2019 --------> pick up 2019 model year in Stuggart in September ----------> get it back to California by December or order August 1, 2019 ---------> pick up 2020 model year in Stuggart in October ---------> get it back to California by January Thank you again very much. It's not so much about when you order,it's about when it's built. Our cab was ordered for an April build for May collection this year, so a 2018 car. After lots of faffing about it hot built in June 18 and although I could have had it now we are waiting until SEP, so it's a 2019 model even though in theory I could have the keys now.
You need to ask you dealer when the normal switch from year a to year b Takes place, I would guess 01 Aug. As I say this year it's earlier because of WLTP reg changes. |
