Question Self-leveling rear suspension motor noise

Hey all,

I just picked up a 2019 e450 Wagon and read that it has the self-leveling rear suspension. I've only had it a couple days and have now noticed a periodic motor activation from the rear of the car now and again. Does the self leveling suspension make a noise loud enough to be hard from the front? Just trying to diagnose where the sound whirring may be originating from. Thanks.

Yes, I can hear the compressor easily from 10 to 20 feet away if it's quiet out. You will also hear the release of air now and then. It's normal.

Was your noise while you were driving or while the car was parked? I’ve heard the typical air suspension noises when the car is stationary but my wife is reporting hearing an “actuator” noise from the rear of the car while it’s driving. Ours is a 2018 E400 Wagon. Supposedly it has done this noise over a 10 minute period several times while driving at interstate speed. She and the passengers in the vehicle all said it sounded like it came from the back of the car.

It’s normal.. the system “levels” the car while driving, when unlocking the car and opening a door and just after parking.

Compressor on the wagon is in the rear, tucked behind bumper.
