Since you don't say where in the world you are, you don't give much to go on. Contact your Mercedes dealer for guidance on how to set up Internet connectivity services in your car. It varies from country to country.

If your car has an intergrated simcard (ie if car is “connected”) you can not run internet off your phone

How would you do this if you lived in the US and didn't know if you had an integrated simcard or not?

At least for the 2018 and 2019 model years, I'm pretty sure all US E Class have integrated simcards. The Internet provider for the 2018's was Verizon, paid for through Mercedes Benz directly. For 2019, MBUSA has switched to AT&T as the internet provider and customers arrange for internet service and pay for it directly with AT&T.

in europe you can order very basic versions of any MB model, but in general they indeed come with intergrated wifi
to know if you have integrated or not you should go into settings, under connections. here it will show what type connections you may or may not have..

Not being an idiot, but please explain this thread to me. You are the iPhone expert. So, please tell me why I would want and/or need to have internet in my car? When I need internet, the phone works fine by itself. What does paying AT&T extra do for me?

Sure. For me, I don't have unlimited data on my iPhone. So, with the internet service I'm now buying from AT&T, I can not only stream as many GB of data I want (I listen to Pandora and Spotify A LOT), plus offer internet service to up to 8 other people I might have a need to cram into my car. Also, if I want to use the MB Apps, I need data. With the integrated Sim card in the car, I can't use my phone as a hotspot to power the Comand system Apps (MB Apps). So, to make life simple, I went ahead and added my car to my AT&T account for unlimited data in the car for $20/month.

i basically took internet in the car so it's easy to listen to internet radio.

of course i could stream a "radio app" from my phone to the car,
or use carplay, but that's just too much hassle for this lazy boy

I do not use the internet in my car for anything else,
so at 120 eur a year it IS quite expensive, especially as i absolutely do not use up all my data...

My main use of MB apps is to view the traffic cams.

I have also set up an internet connection in the car despite having 30gb of data on my phone plan.

as egonvdv says it is easier to access internet radio than via carplay or android auto as they need the phone to be plugged in via the usb connection. But the major reason is simply that the car has a much better aerial than the phone. So if i do use android auto i use the car data package via wi fi rather than phone data. I live in a rural location with spotty 3g or 4g coverage and the signal fails much less on the car connection than when using the phone.

Annoyingly expensive and i hope eventually we can choose our own provider and phone packages will develop to reflect car as well as phone data needs.
