OBD 2 Tuners are out but not cheap
Tried to delete post about Dinan tuner but can't so changed it around. Don't anyone try the dinan tuner yet on the E450, it has not been tested on this car. Looks like nearly 1800 dollars for a OBD 2 Tuner and it's vin locked so I dunno if I'm game at this point. It would add 100 HP which is great and better drivability. Looked into the a dinan tuning piggy back patch, but the company has not tested it yet for the 2019's so thats a no go, would not want to try using something that may or may not work and possibly risk damaging the engine or the turbos. They did tune the 2019's different at the benz factory so what works for a 2018 may not work for a 2019.

Repeat, don't try this Dinan Piggyback for the E450, not tested on this car yet and not a wise decision to be a do it yourself tester, could mess something up. Although it is good for the E400's. From my research today as far as a Obd2 tuner box for our E450's about the only one out there as of now is the AMR and thats under 2 grand. OE tuning still does not have a tuner box for the E450 although can do a bench flash or Obd2 tune at a OE tuning dealer or send in your ECM to them tune. I'm kinda waiting for OE tuning to come out with a Obd2 tuner box for the E450's which might not be far away. It'll be somewheres around $800.00 less according to my calculations than the AMR, Like around $950 or something like that. I do worry a bit about making the car too jumpy with a tune, the E63 AMG I had was a bit too jumpy for my tastes around town, it was very raw and powerful. The E450 has a much more comfortable feeling to it IMO. I dunno maybe I shouldn't even mess with the car, it's not like at over 60 years old I still need to be speed racer, the car drives pretty darn nicely as it is and very powerful stock.

Highlighted in red is the right answer and you came up with it all by yourself! It's a great car. Don't mess with a great car. That's what I have to say. Yes I do!

Has anybody finished running in their E450s? I know I haven't.
If not, then you're still not aware of the full potential of these engines, even in stock form.

This. I am run in. The car is breathtaking for what it offers. I often drive in sport but rarely find myself flooring it. The power is just so linear and the drivetrain/transmission is brilliantly paired. I can't believe my excitement over a wagon! It's highly unlikely that tuning will be necessary unless someone who doesn't work for the tuners writes in and states otherwise.

I haven't yet. I'm not even half way at 6 weeks of ownership. I have yet to see what Sport or Sport + can do. For me, I'm sure they'll be more than enough oomph to entertain on those rare occasions when I want to go out of comfort mode. But 99% of the time for the urban driving in my area will be in comfort.

Not anymore. A drag racer was well, drag racing on Bayshore last year and killed a mother and her baby as they crossed the road. They've reduced the speed on Bayshore and it's strictly enforced because of the public outcry over people speeding there.

Fair point. I guess it's up past Saddlebrook for any spirited driving.
Meanwhile, surprised that they drag on Bayshore. Had always thought they used the Causeway or Gandy.

Oh, they drag there too. The Hulk (famous wrestler) who lives nearby has a son who was drag racing on the Causeway and caused a fatal accident with his best friend. Youth is wasted on the young and sometimes in horribly unfortunate ways.......

For me I wish I could simply have my ECU re-flashed to 450 levels, The 400 and 450 engines are identical. It's a matter of tune, not unlike what MB did with the 2013 W204 C300 and C350's. Same engine, 300 was simply detuned. I don't need the extra power, it simply bugs me because I know that it's already there and MB tested it.

@202 merc amg why dont you want to get the ECU reflash tune? As a FYI also that some may not be aware of if a lot of people think that the OBD type reflash is a quick way to tune and set car back to stock when taking in for service. But every time you change the tune with the OBD port there is a "note" made in the computer programming that there has been a reflash done. So even though yes you can put the car back to stock mode while taking it in for the dealer warranty if you reflashed it 5 times you have 5 history notes on your ecu.
I have a AMR custom dyno tune on my E300 and its everything its cracked up to be. Extra power may not be for everyone but for some its never enough. I got that done within the first 30 days of ownership, car sees nothing but redline.

I tested the Dynamic Select function while parked on my driveway and was disappointed to find no change to exhaust note when switching to Sport+ as I'd seen on YouTube. I liked the idea of having a more aggressive exhaust note to match the more aggressive feel of Sport+ when the mood would take me in future. Guess it's just not something that's available in the UK.

I've seen videos where the E400 has a different exhaust profile in Sport+ (yes I have an E450 but assumed that it would be the same)
The performance exhaust option available on AMG vehicles is something else, I think....
Either way, my car sounds the same in all modes.

Sadly, that's just fuel that didn't combust in the cylinder doing so in the exhaust. Might be running rich to effect it. See if your mileage is impaired.

A tune can definitely fix that. You cant tell too much from the video. but this is 100% stock whisper quiet exhaust that now does the MB pop sound. This is not as "violent" as the AMG cars but the cars exhaust still remains the same and change is possible.

I'm totally in love with this car and would not want to make any modifications. I'm just suprised at all the little differences between markets on what is otherwise basically the same car.

Mine sounded no different in any of the modes, although admittedly I did not rev it much. I'm still treating it like a new born baby.

That’s why I like idea of a hand held tuner. It it makes a great car even better could be a really good thing. If not I’d just return the car to stock and see about returning the hand held.

From what I understand with dinan piggyback is it keeps everything in the car the same only when you floor it you get more turbo boost and 40 more hp but only on the e400 not 450 for now. From what I understand piggybacks can be fine or they can trip check engine lights. A little less stable than a full ecm tune.
