Anyone else have their car damaged at the dealership?

10 minutes after finding out that my car had at least 5 things fixed under warranty, i get a text message from my service adviser with these 2 pics attached. According to him one of the attendants rammed it into a parked GL truck,,,,
Looks pretty bad to me... they have to replace the bumper and the headlight... looking at the damage its not just a scratch... i mean you really have to hit something fairly hard to damage it this badly.. doesnt even seem like the car stopped itself nor did the guy even attempt to brake until full impact..

Hopefully its only aesthetic and surprisingly im not as pissed as i thought i would be...maybe because its a lease...

Anyone else ever experience something like this? Also, wondering how I can make the most out of this situation? haha any ideas?

Ouch sorry to see that - that will cost them a decent chunk.

jhp, that would upset me a lot. But, things do happen, and as long as the dealer stands up and takes care of things, it mitigates the pain a bit. Looks like you have non-metallic black, which should be easy to match and also, it looks like just headlight and bumper, so should be a relatively easy fix.

I would insist on all new parts, not a repair to the bumper. And you can probably get some type of goodwill out of them - never been in the situation, but I would think any good dealer would come up with something...

And, like you, I lease, so it only needs to look perfect for 36 months, then it's someone else's problem.

That is certainly frustrating. I would ask for free maintenance (A/B) for the inconvenience. Because it's a lease, I would breath a bit easier. It is one benefit of leasing, not wishing to rehash pros/cons. If I were in your situation and had purchased, my concerns would escalate considerably.

Wow, how depressing. I don't feel as bad now looking at my car, I caught a little on a parking curb today and now there is a little more gap where your gap really opened up between the fender and the body, same side. like was said though should be a easy fix and ya I'd request they kick in at least a 2 year maintenance plan for your troubles.

That sucks. sorry that happened. I haven't had damage like that but they have scratched my roof liner on the interior and put a scratch or gouge on the wood trim on one of my doors. They don't give a **** about protecting your car. They want to sell it to you and want you to pay them to service it and they could care less how they treat it when its on their lot for service. Lucky thing you are leasing it for sure. Good luck on repairs.

One thing's for sure, next time I'm collecting my car from the dealership following any sort of service, I'll be checking it thoroughly before driving away.

Not surprised one bit, when I was dropping my car off it was late in the day closing time 6:50pm. They were bringing in cars into the garage and packing them in tightly. A porter driving an S class sqeeked the tires stopping behind another car. The porters are careless even with high priced cars.

take a bunch of photos of the car from the inside and outside and a lot of close ups. I recommend also taking some in direct sunlight as well since most of these dealerships always decide to “wash” the car for you. Their washing technique is poor and it just leaves huge swirl marks on the car. I’m leasing it so I don’t really care about it right now but if we buy my next car I’m gonna insist they never touch the paint, even when delivering it.

Dealer damage

Several months ago, I picked up my 213 at the dealer after routine service. The car was backed into a space so I could see that the front bumper and fender were scratched and scraped. No one at the dealer had mentioned this. I immediately called over a service person and took a series of photos. The dealer wanted to compare the damage to photos they took when I dropped off the car. They explained that they take photos of every car brought in for service. The next day, they notified me that a Merceds loaner was available and to bring the car for repairs. Moral: Always inspect your car carefully when it’s been in the custody of someone else and, if possible, take your own photos before handing over the keys.

Funny story: after picking up the loaner, my wife and I stopped at a favorite restaurant for dinner. We were parked on the street in a legal space. Two cops came into the restaurant and asked for us, which really attracted attention. A bus had hit our parked loaner car, caving in a door and causing other damage. The loan agreement from the dealer was sitting on the front seat and the cops were able to see my name on it through the window. They wen to four nearby restaurants looking for us. The dealer took the news pretty well and gave me another Mercedes loaner. The restaurant staff still teases me about the night the police came looking for me. .

I missed this thread and am so sorry to see the damage. Lease or owned, it's hurting my eyes and I hope they care extra care to fix it to new condition.

two of my cars have been damaged by the same dealer two months apart, one is still in the body shop and its been almost three months. Went to pick it up two weeks ago and it was damaged again after being fixed by the body shop. incompetence runs wild. I'm also looking for advice on how to handle the dealership as well, for all of my time that's been wasted. It wasn't just one car, but both my cars. its been a stupid ride.

I think I'd use a different dealer. In all my years and multiple MB cars, I've never had my dealer damage a single one. Two within a couple months at the same dealer is simply unacceptable.

They give good fully loaded loaners and they are close by. My cars are leased so I do not worry much. but yes very unacceptable.

so at least for the dealership that damaged my car, the drivers are 3rd party sourced and not direct employees of the dealership. therefore, i think they might hire cheap labor, unfortunately..... probably as long as you have a driver's license and no past accident records! at least this is my assumption....

my first thought was - wow, how excited must have someone been to have damaged my vehicle like this lol. haven;t they been driving benzes around the lots for years??? but, apparently maybe not...

That is absolutely ridiculous. Somebody needs to get a grip at that place. I've never heard of such madness.

Had an incident happen to me with my W222. They replaced the two rear tires and when I got it back, it kept making a super loud squeaking noise when reversing. I took the car back and demanded them to fix it, mind you, the car is still under factory warranty. Turns out they messed up the rear right fender liner and had to cut a huge chunk of it off. They said they couldn't replace it for free and it would cost somewhere around $4-500 (can't remember the exact number). So instead they offered to cut the piece off that was rubbing even though it was their fault.
