force you to sit closer to steering wheel then safety dictates.

Keep the wheel - spend time improving it.
My ipad andphone screen are nasty and you cannot keep up keeping them clean.

I MISS BUTTONS that you can feel switch... Dayum Steve Jobs and his hatred for buttons...arggggggggggggggggg
I have a problem with touchscreens when they can only be operated by touch. This is very difficult/dangerous on the move.

MB provide multiple input methods even with the new MBUX system that features a touchscreen. So, in this case I have no problem with it.

Although, I am sad to see the wheel go. I would have preferred that they ditch the center console track pad and enlarge the wheel, making the top of it touch sensitive so that it can be used for gestures and handwriting inputs (similar to what BMW did a few years ago).

My dealer said that the E-class facelift will be for sale next year, which is complying with Mercedes normal facelift time frame.

I think the w205 fl also has the touchpad but comand, so wouldnt be so sure. But as the GLC now has mbux it is more likely

I would have liked to have heard the deliberations on which input system will stay and what has to go.

Otherwise, looks pretty much the same.

Mule?
The redesigned 2020 GLEs are starting to show up at dealerships. I suspect the 2020 E class will mirror the GLE, except possibly the touchpad wrist support.. The new MBUX system has improved voice commands and, if I understand correctly, some gesture and proximity controls. I'm looking forward to it, especially voice (which is quite good already).
