Hermes Module

Hello!
Does anybody know if Hermes module can be added as a retro-fit since the car didn't come equipped with it from the factory? I only have the Mercedes Me adapter that is sort of worthless.

rbrylaw 02-02-2019 03:32 PM

I have no clue, but would doubt it would be worth the cost. I suppose anything can be done if one has enough money.

I was not happy when I picked up my 2018 to find out I have no traffic in my car because of this snafu (and my dealer did not even mention that deficiency or that I should wait for the 2019 to get this feature).

For what its worth, I had a Mercedes technician in my car to look at another matter, and I asked him about the Hermes module. He said that Mercedes was working out a deal with the wireless carriers in Canada (that they were fighting to get the contract with Mercedes (uh huh)), and now that it is worked out, they will have Hermes modules available for the 2018 and earlier cars. He said all the wiring is already there and that all that is required is to plug in the module. The wires are located under the passenger seat. Didn't believe him then, and still don't, but I thought I would pass that along.

I also asked him about the nonsensical wifi connection option for the car. I have the car connected to the wifi at my house and at work, but it does not seem to do anything. Mercedes me does not work, nor are there any updates comming through (which it does not appear there will be). The tech told me that the mercedes.me functions only work with the Hermes module and not wifi. That was unfortunate, because I was hoping to get remote start to work over the wifi.

Funny, my first Mercedes (2009 e320) was able to connect the Comand head unit to the internet via the Bluetooth on my blackberry. I could see weather reports, do google searches, and send send address results directly to the nav all using the head unit. My 2018 e300 Comand head unit is a dumb isolated box.

Is this the module you speak of? :rolf:

Yes, but with the modesty loincloth option.

Cambridgehank 03-28-2019 08:06 PM

My VIN review says I have the Hermes module. What does that do for me?

That's the communication module in your car for data communications via Wifi.

In my car I have standard Hermes UTMS/3G module and have no info on the traffic whatsoever, so I would retrofit Hermes module with LTE/4G connection. Does anybody knows how to pair new LTE/4G module with Comand which was before connected with UTMS/3G one? Thanks

I doubt this is something you can do, so you should speak with your dealer to see if it can be done and how it would cost.

Dealer is playing deft on question like those.

But one time I've asked them I got a solid answer, about retrofitting DISTRONIC cruise control and answer from them was "Unfortunately we are not allowed to do those kind of changes on your car."

And you'll likely get the same answer about upgrading the Hermes module. Our cars come with what they come with. Mercedes has never been good about retrofitting existing cars with newer technology. They will happily sell you a new car with the new tech if it's something you want. But they rarely upgrade existing hardware (without significant, sit down it will give you a heart attack price if they even can). It's unlikely it's JUST a module to begin with. There's copious amounts of programming that would be required along with the hardware.

I couldn't agree more with you on this one.

It's not that they can't retrofit it, but more like they don't wanna have extra work with retrofits. Like they are too lazy.

I don't think it's laziness. Most things can be accomplished FOR A PRICE, but that price for many things would be astoundingly expensive. They aren't in the business to bring new tech to older cars. They're in the business to sell new cars. And if we want the new tech, we can for sure have it, wrapped in a new car.

My car claims to have traffic, but in the 3 months I have had it, it has yet to offer to route me around traffic or just start with a better route where WAZE has done it multiple times on the same trip(s).

Mine has. It knew about a road closure done within the past week and automatically calculated the detour for me.

ua549 03-30-2019 12:12 PM

Even when not using a nav route, the map shows road congestion with red marks on the map next to the road.

I'm just gonna update this thread real quick. Here's the HERMES module wiring harness (one of them maybe more?). I just happened to be scrolling through the EPC to try and find what retrofits I can do to my 16 C450.

HERMES harness A2055404276
Heres another harness thats required A2055401420

Those are for the LTE version of the module

Hi,

I did not had any fault code on my dashboard. Suddenly the car could not be started anymore.
The Mercedes Benz service comunicated me that i have to replace this 2 parts in order to fix the car.
A0009064703( power electronics module) and A2213400600 (hybrid battery).

I will ask the MB service to send me all the information that they have if you think necessary.
Thank you so much for help.

I am moving overseas with my 2019 Mercedes G63. Can I change the Hermes module to make on my Mercedes me app it work in Asia?

yiannossavva 05-18-2023 09:31 AM
