So sorry to hear it. It won't be a cheap fix; as usual best to get a few estimates. Those things happen....fortunately it's just a car and can be easily repaired. Good luck!

Very sorry to see. Not knowing your market, but looking at the damage, I suspect it will be expensive to say the least.

Expensive. My local dealer quoted me more than USD 1,000 to repair two small paint blemishes. No dent repair.

My guess is around 2-2.5 K, maybe a little more if you knicked the wheel too, looks like an easy fix though. Good luck to you!

A lot will depend on his deductible and whether it's worth taking a hit on his insurance premium increase. Either way, I feel his pain.

What is the metal thing your car is in? I have never seen anything like that.

Damage doesn’t look too bad. Body work needed but in a small area. Shouldn’t be too bad. Idk price..... are you looking to pay out of pocket? I’d guess 2k you need to paint 3 big panels.

Just got a quote from AW COLLISION in San Francisco, 15k! The guy said the entire passenger's side needs to be replaced (door + rear side part).
I do have Metromiles insurance and my collision coverage deductible is 1k. If it's 2-3k I can pay out of pocket but any more than that I would need the insurance to cover...

It's my apartment's stacked garage, which is also where the accident happened. The entrance for my slot is quite narrow and I hit one of the pillars.

I was guessing $8 to 10K, but figured I would wait to see what you received as an estimate. I am not surprised - door skin, rear quarter, side sill, wheel repair, blend into front fender and back over trunk. I would worry less about the cost and more about the quality of the repair - matching the paint color, degree of metallic and also the texture of the finish is really close to an art. I'd assume insurance is picking up the check and you're picking up the deductible - there's no money to be saved here...

What??? no way. Take it somewhere else. That place clearly doesn’t work on Aluminum. You need an Aluminum specialist.

Last resort is insurance, a 15k claim is not what you want on your name.

This guy in Russia does panels like artwork.

That one will be expensive due to all the panels that need body work and paint.

I would get second estimate as the door I can see being replaced due it probably cheaper then fixing it via by hand.
The rear quarter looks to be repairable the only difficult part would be the front pinch point where it was a corner.
Might need that bottom body kit part.

Sometimes shops see MB and want to bill more hours.
Might be worth actaully having your insurance adjuster checking out the car.

My guess would be $5-7k in my area of country but maybe rates $$$$$$$$$ in SF?

First of all, I'd get a dealer quote on the damage, Bet you it's a lot less than the $15,000+ quoted by that collision firm. People always assume the MB dealer is going to automatically rip them off. This is not necessarily true. Plus, if I was going to get body work done, I'd prefer it be done to MB standards.

Second, I would have ball parked this in the $5000 to $8000 range. Either way, Insurance will have to handle this. That's why you have it.

My wife recently damaged her 1990 C230 (yes, it's 29 years old, has all of 36K actual miles on the clock). Sorry, no photos, but i can tell you that the damage was very similar to what is shown in your photos, perhaps a little less severe, and the insurance company (Safeco) estimated the cost of the repair to be $1,161.00, less our $500.00 deductible. Of course, that was not what it would cost if we got it replied at an authorized Mercedes dealer's body shop (we haven't had it fixed yet).

So what usually happens in that case? When the insurrance company’s estimate is drastically different from the body shop’s?

You have three options:

1. Go to the insurance company's designated repair place and pay just the deductible amount;
2. Go to an authorized Mercedes dealer's repair shop and pay the difference between what they charge and the insurance company's estimate plus the deductible amount;
3. Pocket the insurance company's check and don't get the car repaired.

I suppose you could sue the insurance company or more likely file an arbitration claim, but your chances of prevailing in either forum are slim to none and a huge waste of time.

Depends on whether you are paying out of pocket or letting your insurance handle it. As long as Insurance is handling it, cost is relatively inconsequential at that point. I'd concentrate on getting the best quality repair.

I don't see why you'd trust a set of Yelp reviews for a brand new MB repair. Rusty above has it right - this is an insurance claim for sure, only decision is to find the best place to get it fixed. Starting with the dealer makes perfect sense - it might be different in the bay area, but here in NC, there are only a few shops that are certified to work on MB, Jaguar, and other aluminum intensive vehicles - and the dealer is the source of the info on the best place to get it repaired.
