wouldn’t the premium increase be different for a 2k vs 15k repair?

I don't know your insurance situation, but you have a brand new Mercedes Benz - don't you want it fixed properly? I think many insurance companies have set surcharge percentages after a first accident - I think State Farm's is between 8% and 10%. That would increase my insurance by about $100 per year. (The claim threshold is usually above a certain amount - not sure a $2K claim vs. a $15K claim changes the surcharge - someone else may know that...)

That $2k repair is very likely going to look like crap - why put yourself in that situation?

Mostly because I am leasing this car, so I figured as long as the fix can pass the turn-in check then I am okay with it.

Now that we know your car is leased, there is another set of circumstances. Regarding Insurance: The leasing company becomes a named insured on the policy because they have an interest in the car since it is only being leased to you.

Secondly, you must notify the leasing company or dealership of the accident in that the leasing company may have very specific requirements for the repairs. For example, some dealerships will not allow you to repair a leased vehicle with after-market parts. Rather, the company may require you to repair the vehicle with original manufacturer parts( and I'm sure Mercedes will) . If you’re unaware of the requirements, and you fail to comply with them, you could face financial penalties at the end of your lease.

So in the long run, it's more important that your repair is done right. If your repair is less then first rate, MB will ding you at lease end. They'll know in advance how your car was repaired.

Jiang, do yourself a favor, listen to Rusty above - that $2K repair wouldn't pass the lease end inspection at a Yugo dealer. You're signing up to drive a brand new car with a substandard repair and then you'll get whacked at the end of the lease with charges because it is not repaired to the leasing company's standards... Consult your dealer on the right place to have it repaired and confirm with the leasing company before you make an expensive mistake.

A gaggle of MB's
Frankly - two things:

1. Get a quote from a Mercedes Benz Certified Collision Center - this link will help for the "Bay Area" -

https://www.mbusa.com/mercedes/deale....google.com%2F

2. Look - frankly the type of damage you have - and to get it done right - you will be claiming insurance - pay your deductable - and that's that..

I do have Metromiles insurance and my collision coverage deductible is 1k. If it's 2-3k I can pay out of pocket but any more than that I would need the insurance to cover...
Bogus!
I'm starting to get the impression that everything in the BA is basically jacked. You should reach out to body shops in central CA.

Second, I would have ball parked this in the $5000 to $8000 range. Either way, Insurance will have to handle this. That's why you have it.
Dealers don't do body and paint. They will always refer you to a body shop.

Probably a little late - about 3 years ago my wife's brand new Lexus RC350 was side swiped. The left rear quarter and left door were heavily damaged. It was hit hard enough that there was wheel/axle damage. IIRC, repairs were in the $15K -$17K range. The shop that did the repairs was Car Care Auto Body & Refinishing in Campbell, CA. FYI - this is a aluminum body car. I know exactly where it was damaged but no matter how close I look or whatever angle the sun is at I cannot see any evidence any work was done to it. Absolutely the perfect repair.
