Tire figment question on my wagon
 

2019 e450 wagon. Will size 275 35 r19 fit on the rear stock 19 inch rims. Currently there are 245 40 19 inch on the rear as the front I believe. I was planning on going with the 245 40 19 on the front. This is the tires size combo on my 2019 e450 cabriolet and that car rides and drives great. The tires are the Michelin primacy 3 tires. I’d be changing out the Goodyear sport tires on the wagon which I feel might be a lot of the problem with the bad ride and vibrations on the highway. I’d like to have a staggered setup on the wagon. With the wider rear I think it just looks better and handles better. Hopefully this combo would be ok for the awd on the wagon for all tires being roughly the same od. The cabriolet with this size combo is just rear wheel drive.

I'm planning on new wheels and maybe tires when my e450 arrives. Don't know yet what sizes to go with. I'm planning on a slight lowering (1 - 1.5") too. I've considered a staggered setup but no decisions until it is in my driveway.

No. Wagon's rear (and the front) wheels are 8" wide. In order to run 275/35, you'll need at least 9" wide wheels.

Considering amount of miles you previously said you're to put on a car (around 24K m/y, right?), IMHO it would be better to stay with a square set up. To make car look and handle(to a degree) better, consider adding spacers with longer bolts 10/15 F/R (this is "nycebo" setup, he has dedicated thread on this subject with pictures) or 15/20 F/R (my rainy season setup). (Missing that E63 handling already?)

IIRC, I read somewhere the E450 comes with 42mm offset. If buying new wheels one could go with 32mm offset instead of the spacers (square setup)?

All W213 8" wide wheels (18" or 19") for E300/400/450 are et43 front and rear. Yes you can buy aftermarket wheels or OEM wheels from a different model with offsets in low 30s, then you won't need spacers. With W213 stock rims, spacers are a must and IMHO car looks better when rear offsets are 5mm lower than front on square setup.

Maybe I’ll just stick with 245s all the way around the. But go with better tires than the Goodyear sports. The Michelin primacy 3s are actually used as OEM on some S class cars. I kinda hate to get away from run flats entirely. I don’t have a jack. Don’t want to use sealer that gooks up the TPMS and would be nice to just drive the car to a shop should something bad happen in all my travels.

I've seen a lot of posts on other forums against run flats. Then one thinks of a situation where you're on a busy road at night with a flat. Even waiting for a AAA truck is dangerous with so many drivers more interested in what is on their phone that the road ahead. To me run flats are a must.

ive given it a lot of thought. Especially for me with Run flats. I’m in a wheelchair and getting out of the car in a highway breakdown lane would be a really bad idea. One of my best customers was hit and killed this way. Scary stuff. The runflats could literally save your life. I’m just thinking the Michelin primacy May be a lot better than the Goodyear sports. They sure are more expensive. I’ll see if the dealer can find anything with my vibration in the wagon in a month or so at the 10k mike service.

Same story with a friend's brother. Got out of his car on the highway to help a stranded driver and was hit and killed.

Never get out of the car on the highway. On RFTs, drop to 50mph and get off at next exit. On a regular tire, slow to under 10 in the emergency lane and limp to an exit. If the car is immobile, wait in it with your seatbelt on until a cop or tow truck arrive.

thats exactly what happened to my friend Jerry. He was helping someone out when he got hit. He use to bring 5 cars a month to my station for oil changes. I owned a quick lube. His whole family was on the road a lot and they all had Acura’s that they’d drive over 300 k miles with proper service.

IMHO in your situation, you must stay with run flats and stay square (you can still add 10/15 spacers same as "nycebo" did to improve look and handling).

If you want the best comfort/ride and are willing to go with H speed rated tires, Conti Procontact GX SRR are the best choice. If you want a bit more performance - Z or Y rated tires, but at a cost of having about 1/2 trade life - then go with Michelin Primacy 3 ZP. Both of these are "grand touring" tires (meaning the best possible comfort/ride, but not necessary the best handling) and will provide much better ride than MOE Goodyears (which are not touring tires, but more "performance" oriented).

Thanks the pro contacts listed sound like probably the way to go. As long as the ride is better than the good year moe’s. Not crazy about those tires at all. Anyone know the best price on those pro contacts in the 245 40 19.? Tire buyer or tire rack ? Maybe dealer will match their price. This car needs to be comfortable. That’s my top priority Hopefully the make them in my size. 2000 more miles at the 10k service I may scrap the Goodyear’s. Maybe I can fine a used tire place in Sarasota that will buy them. Just did a little research. Good advice on the contis. 75 bucks less a tire at 225 ea and double the wear rating. Was surprised to see a 240 rating on the Michelin Primacy tires low. Reviews look good. With all the miles I do on the wagon the Michelin’s would be expensive to maintain. Don’t do many miles on the cabrio so the primacy are fine on that car. Nice riding tires. Hopefully the contis ride as good.
