Just my $.02:

The A service is basically oil change, filter and inspections.

As MB now uses synthetic oil, the life span is much, much longer than old conventional oil.

Here in the US, the A service is at 10,000 miles, which is roughly 16,000 KM.

I do the A service at 10,000 miles which for me is usually 15 months.

Mb told me the service A have to do on 12000km or one year . But next month is one year , but the mileage is only 7000KM . What should I do? Take it to do the service A or drive the car's mileage until 12000KM?

If not mileage, I have it done annually.

Actual mileage

Service due in 7,500 miles
I do not want to beat a "Dead Horse" - but I believe that service is mileage and not time dependent.

As posted above, in the United Sates the "A" service is every 10,000 miles.

Went to my car today and on my screen is the following:

Current mileage is 2,667.

Service A in 7,500.

Pretty much sums it up: Service A at 10,000 miles.

Check the expiration dates on those service packs. They do expire if you don't use them. They do expect you to show up once a year for service no matter what the mileage is. I suppose you could go a few extra months without a problem but if you go too long, those service packs might be expired by then. Also many people tend to go once a year when the car is under warranty. After it's out of warranty, people tend to do whatever they like.

Yes , you are right . I remember the agent has told me the free services have a expiry date . I think I should ask when is the expiry date for the service first . And ask them can I go a few more month to service my car or not .

So that's why I'm getting suggestion from you guys what is the good time to service for the new car because I don't know when to service is better.

Basically after a year. You can go a few extra months with such low miles, but you're supposed to flush the brake fluid every 2 years regardless of miles so going a few extra months is fine, but going every 2 years makes it end up being a B service instead. Plus if they expire after 5 years, then there's really no point extending it out more than a couple extra months.

Despite having only about 6000 miles on the car, I did mine at a year just to be on the safe side and to avoid any warranty issues that might arise if a problem were to develop. In addition to having the car checked from bumper to bumper, I had the software update installed. On top of that, while waiting for the service to be completed, I ate three donuts that my wife never found out about.

Erm....Both of you are right .... I think it is no point to make extra month if the free services is expire on after 5 years . If I didn't done the service on the year date , and the free service is expired and I have to pay it by myself to get service car. Also they will get a reason to void my warranty if any issue happen. I think I should go on the date to service my car.

What is the changes after the software update?

Yes , you pointed it out . There is no point to extending a couple extra months if the free service will get expired after year .

Don't you get a dash screen "notice" that you have exceeded your service by 'X' number of days? That might imply that intervals are time-based, rather than mileage.
I went for my first service at about 7000 miles and 14 months. I might have postponed a couple of months longer, but wanted to get 2 software updates out of the way.

In Europe to keep your warranty valid it is 12.000km (10,000 miles in the UK) or 12 months, whichever comes first. You can have a few weeks leeway on the 12 months but that's it.

So depends where the OP is.

.
There is more than an oil change with an annual service visit. On my first Service A visit at 3k miles all software was updated - engine/transmission, COMAND, nav maps - as well as MB service campaigns were completed. It takes me 3 or more years to put 10k miles on my "town" car. Lubricants oxidize just as brake fluid absorbs water. If something breaks and the service schedule was not followed, warranty coverage can be denied.

I have been told by multiple MB people that neither miles nor time are strictly enforced. However, I wouldn't suggest waiting 24 months if you only drive 5000 miles per year or less.

That would very much depend on which country you are in. in the UK and Europe it is. May not be in the US or other regions.

I never drive the anticipated 10K miles/year and my cars always remind me service is due on or about ever 12 months. I have my cars serviced annually, in the 12th month after taking delivery, regardless of the mileage on the odeometer.

I’m quite particular to get service in whether it be time or mileage based (it’s almost always miles for us). Doing so saved us a big repair once. We got a check engine light on our SLK so I took it in and they said they know exactly what the problem is, but we’re outside the warranty period and it’s an expensive repair — $5500. I just about croaked. And then my service advisor said he could see in the records we never missed a beat. He said give him a little time and he’d try to go to bat for us with Mercedes. He came through. Mercedes covered the whole thing. The car was in the shop for 2 weeks and we got a loaner for the whole time. He told me it was because we had been so fastidious in maintenance that Mercedes took care of it. I later received something about a class a lawsuit regarding the flaw and when it was settled most owners weren’t going to qualify for much. We got lucky.

I just have mine serviced at half of the required interval. Even more fastidious.

I’m not sure if that is in jest or not. My father did precisely that for oil changes. He’d take the manufacturer’s recommended oil change interval in miles and halve it. I guess it worked. He bought a Volvo in 1990 or 1991 that I inherited and sold off in 2015.
