Changing/checking air filters is easy in this W213

Heck if a fool in a wheelchair can do it anyone can right? I just used that torx screw tool and that was the only tool I needed. There are clips on front of the engine air intake so be careful when unclipping those and then the engine cover just pulls off by hand no tools needed. The air box covers only have 4 of those torx screws, just make sure to tuck down the far end that clips in across from the torx screws, that's what holds down the right side of this cover. I figured with the small amount of debris/dirt I saw in these filters today they should be fine for at least another 10 to 20K miles. I thought maybe they would be worse after 10K driving in Florida and 2K driving back from Florida and New England. |
Does anyone know if the orange filter in the picture is the Mercedes oem air filter? Do they look like that? It sure seemed like a el cheapo chinsey air filter. Maybe the filter was changed with a non oem filter at the 10k mile service although I doubt it. Just kinda surprised that Mercedes would use a filter like the ones I had in my hands today. Maybe I値l stop at the auto parts store tomorrow and see if Wix makes filters for this car yet. I always had pretty good luck with those.

Thanks. Yep that was it. I missed looking at the sides. Darn though looking at those they look like cheap Chinese filters. I値l have to compare them to a wix or a Mann or some other filters. Maybe Autonation using the cheap Chinese filters is not such a bad thing after all. They might use the same Chinese vender Mercedes uses lol.

I値l check that out. Let us know if you find higher quality ones.
I知 planning to do an oil change myself soon. I have an extractor. So with the topside filter it痴 easy. Washed and and waxed it today after I got it back. Viti driver was a retired Pats asst. coach. Great conversation. Not a bad job driving Benzes around! |
Oh ya, I know him. It's just that Service writer, he is so monotone. Reminds me of the teacher in Ferris Buellers day off or something. The really good guy there is Danny, very straight shooter and right to the point.

My local dealer just settled a class action against them for using Non OEM parts without telling their customers. I got a 5 dollar voucher to use at my next service :D
|
I was that a auto nation or a sonic dealer ? They are both a holes.
|
Sonic, I have been dissatisfied with both my local Sonic Lexus and MB dealers

If you want the same filters are the MB factory filters just by the Mann brand. Mann makes all of MB air, oil and cabin filters at about 1/3 less in price.

I still have not looked into other filters but am going to when I have the time. The Mahle looks like it was made by a Tamale in Mahee, lol. There's gotta be a better quality air filter for our cars I'd think.
Just checked online, Wix makes one. Wow, these are not cheap. https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/b...r+Filter&pos=0 |
Yes these filters do look flimsy (not because made by MAHLE instead of MANN, but because of how MB designed it for V6TT - even E300's I4 single, MANN made, air filter looks/feels more "substantial"). The worst part is that service manual calls for them to be changed only at 50Kml/5yr intervals. I would do it 30/3 instead. For some it could be yearly with 25K+ m/y.

Wow 50k miles that痴 crazy. I値l do mine every 25k miles.

Those filters carry the worst smell ever. As the season changed and now using A/C is more frequent the smell of the A/C filter makes me gag when it is first turned on.
|
This thread was about the engine air filters not cabin filters. Thats odd that you have that though, I've never had a car that has that issue. Maybe worth it to spray some mold killer spray in the Cabin filter itself and the box.?
