Reverse gear warning beep

2017 E300 new to me! When I place the car in reverse after turning on the ignition I get a red warning surrounding the small left portion of the 12" passenger side screen and an audible warning for a second or so. Car has Premium package 2 if that makes any difference and therefore doesn't have 360 degree surround camera. Couldn't find anything in the manual that addressed this. What can be done to disable the audible portion of the warning?

Sounds like that Parktronic distance sensor is bad. Do you see any damage (nicks) on it?

.
It is warning you that there is a nearby obstacle. The alert should stop after you exit the area. The distance sensor will activate when an obstacle is closer than a couple of feet.

There is no apparent damage to any of the sensors. Had my wife place car in reverse with brake on and put my ear to each sensor and heard nothing...no ticking noise from any of the sensors. Placed care in middle of a fairly wide street so there were no obstructions nearby. Turned off ignition, opened door, restarted car, placed in reverse and alarm sounded along with red lines around figure of car in left most portion of split view in back up camera.. Backed car up to within a few inches of brick wall and no audible alarm.Noticed that Parktronic button shows red light (indicating off) when trying to use that feature at very slow speed moving forward, also unable to set it to on using vehicle setting on 12" screen.

Thanks Whoover and UA549 for your advise. I will schedule visit with dealer to figure out problem with Parktronic/sensor issues.

A stone took one out on my car. The beeping was driving us batty so we bit the bullet and paid the $1,000 comprehensive deductible and got it replaced. Total cost was $1,200! Usual story. R/R bumper. Send new sensor out to be painted. $50 part costs $1,200 installed.

Wow, that’s a lot of money for a tiny sensor. I imagine they aren’t easily replaced by a non technician.
