S213 E450 4Matic, W111 220SE - prior cars: 3x W212, W210 E55 AMG, W202 C43 AMG, W126 300SE
Thanks. More than a year in now, and no real issues with the car. It was a car sitting on the lot, so I couldn't spec it to my exact dreams, but it is close. I agree with the facelift - my prior car was a facelift W212, and I liked it - just wanted to change things up while I can, and it was a dark color which could be a chore to maintain. It was also a sport, as finding a high option lux trim that was also a Bluetec was virtually impossible. The facelift mention brings up another subject, I am not a fan of the new lighting, either. For many years the E had distinct lighting from other models, especially apparent on facelift 212 and first 213. Now it is the same or similar to others.

This isn't a sports car, not pretending to be one, no AMG logos on this car, and I am fine with that. Of course it is subjective and everyone has their tastes, but now MBUSA seems to be catering to just one. I am sure some focus groups and 17th layer of management suits know sporty=youthful=sales, but not so fast, these cars might have different purchase justifications than other cars. I know some customers want a sporty look, offer a trim level for them - but also offer one for those who don't. It doesn't cost that much to offer two cosmetic trim lines. For the cost of these cars, it can be done.

The new lux grille isn't as traditional as the old one, but better than nothing - I'd still take it over the sport. However, it looks like that won't be an option in my market anyway, so I'd have to convert a car myself (but still have the "sport" wheels and maybe other trim I don't particularly want), or just keep what I have,.

Looking at how horrible the new Luxury grille looks, I guess I can understand why MBUSA didn’t want it here. In so many cases, the exterior styling of mid-cycle “face lifts” have been SUCH an improvement. In the case of the W213, the 2017-2020 was much better looking, IMHO. In the case of the Luxury version, it’s no contest.

If you notice, even the Mercedes-Benz badge is removed. So in Germany you get the star and a round grill with nothing further.

There are three different exterior styling options to choose from in Germany..
https://www.mercedes-benz.de/passeng...-PZB-V69/lines

Avantgarde (standard), Exclusive (with the aiming ornament on the hood) and the AMG line.

I wish they'd offer more of a retro styling option. I miss the large rectangular grill with a star on top. The classic look.

78°, Thank you for posting that. The "Exclusive Trim" grill is truly awful, the "Avant Garde" grill is lacking in distinction, but I will concede that the "AMG Line" grill is worth considering, especially since it lacks that white metal crap surrounding the lower facia of the other two. I could live with the AMG Trim if I had to, Does it cost extra? (Excuse me, I'am being facetious.)

Oof, how did I miss that. I am still irked from when the badge background color changed from blue to black.

Looking at that German link, I like the new "traditional" grille less the more I see it, not really traditional, and the badge would bug me. Maybe the 19 is the keeper.

For reference, here's my other car, I generally enjoy cars up into the 90s most, so my tastes might be a little old fashioned:

Thanks for posting. Any idea when E63 Sedan DOG will be available?

Thanks very much. Can you post the cabriolet version too? I'm thinking about trading up from my C43 Cabrio to an E53 when my lease is up

I just saw a glimpse of 2021 S Class, and it looks like it's going to keep the classic Luxury design.
I sure hope so since the S Class is their "luxury" model.
Looks like I'll be shopping for a CPO or I may move to a "luxury" Audi A6 or BMW 540. MB may have lost another customer.

I know what you're saying. What the ever-loving heck, MB North America!!! What focus group gave you that guidance, I wonder?

Other variants remain available in Europe (as per usual). I was all set to consider a MY21 wagon but nooooope, no longer an option for me.

The US foreign car importing subsidiaries play follow the leader. Volvo to Subaru to Audi to Benz. “If we all do the same thing, they can’t fire all of us”. You can see where this thinking got Volvo.

MBUSA made a lot of strange blunders in a last of the few years. I wonder if their sales are affected.

I wonder how many US model wagon sales it takes to break even. Certifying a each model year car for sale in the US is horrendously expensive. Profitably is most likely the reasoning behind dropping the US version wagon.

Sedans are not a big deal, but SUV would be very expensive to bring to U.S. That's why all the MB SUV's are built in Alabama..

Not exactly. MB builds SUVs in many plants worldwide. But more specifically, MB does not build the GLB or the G Class in Alabama both of which are sold here.

Daimler has 8 main manufacturing plants; 5 passenger car assembly plants (from kits); and several external partners/commissioned production and assembly plants such as Magna Steyer, ...

DID ANYONE GET THE DEALER ORDERING GUIDE yet, i want to see if you can select macchiato beige / black and still have the macchiato beige headliner or is the macchiato beige headliner only available with macchiato beige / grey. Grey probably looks better but nice to see if its customizable. SO AS TO THE ORIGNAL POST DOES ANYONE HAVE THE DOG?

2018 E300 Luxury fully loaded
I ordered a MY21 E-Class which is currently awaiting shippment from Germany. I'm disappointed that MB dropped the Luxury option which is still available in Europe. They also dropped other options which I love on my 2018 E300 such as the 2nd sun visor - really useful - the Air Freshener & ionizer package, the star on the hood. They have added many electronic features but have not made available the Digital Operator's Manual - it's only built into the multimeadia system - so I could become familiar with all the features and how to use them before I try to drive 50 miles home from the dealer on California's crowded freeways. If anyone knows how to get a pdf version of the MY21 E350 Digital Operator's Manual please post the URL. I've logged on to the Mercedes ME web site but the only manual available is the Owner's manual which only references the Digital manual for the features I want to learn.

Not exactly what you're looking for but the owners manual on page 18 makes reference to the Digital Operator Manual in the car.

Mr. Streamliner, I met a fellow on the street who changed his grill. He told me it took 4 hours and he need a lift as he said he had to remove the front bumper and one of the headlights to get to the grill. Also he said the diamond grill cost 1200 (just FYI)

Thats interesting, but I cured the problem for myself, by finding a loaded, low mileage 2019 Wagon, center photo. Seeing these two photos, the current “Luxury” version, top photo, really looks bad to me. It looks like they designed the traditional grille to just “snap” into the recess they designed for the sport grille. IMO, it looks cheap and tacky, but we’ll probably never see one on this side of the pond, so that’s that. They had a gorgeous design, then decided to “phone in” the new design. Now, folks in the US only get the bottom photo. What a shame.
