Sell car- get extended warranty refund

Any guidance on this? Do I need to do something before I sell or can I follow the sale. Looking at a 911.

I would assume that the warranty follows the car?

If the car is still under factory warranty, then you should be able to get full refund on ELW. However if under the ELW period, you may be able to transfer it to the next private owner. If you sell or trade to a dealer, I believe ELW no longer transfers.

I’ve sold or traded two MB cars which had Mercedes extended warranties. Both were after the expiration of the four year factory warranty and after the extended warranty began. I had not filed any claims under the extended warranty. In both cases, I had a choice of transferring the extended warranty to the new owner or getting a pro rated refund of the premium and in both cases I chose the latter and was sent a check. I did this through the selling dealer. If you’ve had any claims under the extended warranty I believe the pro rated refund isn’t available. As far as I know, this is all standard Mercedes policy for all their extended warranties.

Wow bummer, seems like it was not that long ago you got that car. I still have my E450 Wagon and like it but my S class 550 is so much more comfortable, Just did a Florida drive in 2 days with it, I know in the E class it would have been no where's near as comfortable, I must be getting old. I guess I kinda goofed on my E450 wagon not getting the multi contour seat option with the napa leather. Glad you got the warrantee figured out. Generally when you trade it they give you a credit for the unused portion of the MB Extended warrantee.

Hi Merc, I guess I’m in full mid life crisis,, as far as cars go. It’s been right at a year. I’ve been gazing at the wagon all weekend as I work in the yard and garage. Truly a beautiful car, but I’m just not thrilled driving it around town. It really needs to be a cruiser. Mine had a few too many rattles they could never solve too. Not great in R.I. for that. I need a small sports car for the spirited driving. And a soft one for my daily.

I did take it to NH and fell in love with it all over again a couple months back. But now in Covid I’m up on the highway less and less. Had it in for its A service and asked what it’s worth, realized I can sell it for a nice price still. Really held its value. I bought it outright, but I’m out much less than the equivalent of 12 months of lease payments, forget the money down even. So I’m pretty happy with that. And Viti was easy and decent to deal with on the extended warranty.

I’ll be back to one again someday. For now it’s a Land Cruiser for me and Camry Hybrid for my daughter. 911 to be ordered in the spring is my plan.

Ya, I agree, I did not really like my 2018 E63 AMG wagon in RI and found it uncomfortable on long trips and always stopping for gas. In the right type of driving it was a great car like you said up in VT or NH on curvy country roads it was a blast. Around RI I found the car way too stiff and unforgiving. Maybe you could sell the car now before winter sets in and avoid the next 5 or 6 months of depreciation. The absolute best car I've ever had as a daily driver all the way around in any place is my 2017 S550. Of course its not sports car but about the most comfortable car on the planet. I must be getting old I guess. Even my E450 Wagon I find a little uncomfortable, it is fairly stiff, the seats are fairly hard and it's the luxury package model too. which kinda surprises me. The car I would be interested in if it were not for the image of looking like King Tut would be a Bentley Convertible. I had a E450 Cabrio but it was too low getting in and out although I really did like that car otherwise but traded that in for my S550 Sedan. I agree on the 911 though, great cars, I'd really be thinking about one of those if it were not so low getting in and out. That would be a problem for me as I'm physically disabled.

992 4s....debating the PDK or manual. I may seek a used 991.2 first, but would like to build my “keep it forever” car.....just like the last three cars in three years.

I've owned two 997's over the years, both were SO rad! This is when I traded the Targa towards the Turbo and was switching wheels You will not be disappointed!

How did you get your dealer to cancel the policy? Mine would not respond to me and is kicking the ball to different finance managers. MBUSA says they cannot do anything.

All I had to do was request the pro rated refund from my dealer. I was connected to the finance department and they sent me a check. I believe this is standard Mercedes policy as long as you bought the Mercedes extended warranty from an authorized dealer and have not submitted any claims under the extended warranty.

It has been a few years. As I recall, it took 3-4 weeks.
