Raising Front Seat Beyond Maximum Set Height

We have a 2017 E400 4-Matic Wagon. The maximum height on the driver's seat that can be electrically attained is still too low. Is there a way to raise the seat height?

You probably should have checked that out before you bought the car. Make sure nothing is restricting it. Otherwise, I don’t know what to tell you,

Some type of custom body shop may be able to add a spacer and possibly longer bolts where the seat attaches to the floorboard. But not something I would want to do. It could affect the safety of the driver or passenger in a bad accident.

Some cushion on top of seat.

Modifying seat with spacers is a terrible idea. Last option would be selling car and get something that fits you.

Right, I didn’t think about the air bags.

Fabricating something that actually raises the physical seat -- when it is already at it's maximum height -- sounds like a very bad idea to me. For many reasons I think. I can just feel the potential "safety" and "liability" issues creeping into my bones, LOL. Perhaps some sort of cushion or pillow might suffice, but even at that, does that really solve the problem? Even that might create safety and liability issues. Would custom seats be an option? Can you sell the car, and look at other models/years/etc.? Good luck.

I raised the seat on my Pontiac Firebird many years ago and had no problems. I used 1 inch long galvanized 1/2 inch diameter pipe couplers that I bought from a hardware store. I also bought stainless steel bolts that had the same thread as the original ones but 1 inch longer. I bolted the bolts through the couplers one at a time and this worked to raise the seat by one inch. The seat was manual, but I don't think that makes a difference.

You don’t say how old the firebird was. I find it funny that you don’t think there would be a difference between a manual seat from whenever and a power seat now and the electronics and sensors involved now. Maybe not.

I can see that being a fix, and if the inch helped you sit better, was more comfortable, better visibility, etc., that's great. I think a current model, new MB, with modern technology, electronics, sensors, etc., could be very different than what, a 2000 Firebird? I think the last year they made the Firebird was 2001 or so? That car brings back a lot of memories, LOL.

The Firebird was a 1976. Whether the seat is manual or electric it's bolted down to the floorboard with 4 bolts. The bolts are likely Torx bolts now rather than 6-sided bolts in the old days. I removed the driver's seat from a 1995 BMW and it was electric and had 4 bolts (most likely Torx, but I can't remember now). I could have raised it up if that were necessary.
