2021 e450 rear brake replacement

I am looking for the process or buttons on the steering wheel to press to access the "Workshop Tools Menu" which brings up the 'Brake pad replacement' process. I have searched high and low for this info. I want to change the rear pads to ceramic pads on a 2021 E450 All Terrain. No youtube vids, no mechanic details. I thought the rear pad change process would be similar to the 2020 S Class which I did but can't access the menu to release the rear calipers. Also don't see the sensor as on an S Class. Haven't taken anything apart yet. Can anyone help me please?

Thank you

You might be SOL on a cheap manual. The WIS you could get on eBay for under $10, but that stopped in 2020 and your model might not be listed although they didn't make that many changes from year to year but who knows, maybe someone else with Star Tekinfo access could post the relevant documents for you. It's $63 a day for access in the US and it's hard to figure out, don't know what they charge in Canada.

I thank you all for you help and replies, however, everything changed as of the 2021 model year. I guess I can try the dealer and will let you all know if I get the info.

Maybe if you posted your vin, someone like Konigstiger could look it up and post the procedure. Or just PM him, but it might be more helpful it was posted in case someone else has the same request later.

Absolutely, here is my VIN#, W1KZH6AB8MA976164. I was hoping Konigstiger might have the answer but didn't want to bug him since he has so many requests.

Well folks, I have tried the procedures that our good friend Konigstiger sent to me but still doesn't work. I am convinced that as of the 2021 model year and introduction of the All Terrain, MB has changed the procedure to access the "Workshop Tools" menu on the dash. Still hoping for the solution and the 'heat dome' to pass over our part of the country before I tackle the brake pad replacement.

In that case, try placing your key in the marked spot where a key symbol is (where the cup holders are), as I recall that helped someone getting it work on the facelifts for some reason.

I swapped the OEM pads on my E400 to Centric Posi-Quiet ceramic pads and there's a very visible reduction in dust. I'm not tracking this car and I don't notice much of a difference in everyday street use. I'm really happy with them and it only cost around $100 for a full set.

Surprised you feel the need...I have been amazed by how little dust the OEM pads shed.

Well, after trying all the member's suggestions to no avail, I stopped by the dealer who informed me that the only way to access the Workshop Tools menu on 2021 on, was by the dealer only. He claimed they plug into the under dash port to access the menu. Somehow I still believe there has to be another way thru the steering wheel buttons. What do you think Konigstiger?

no way, if MB really did that it would backfire soon, have you try going to MBHouse if you are located in the GTA and see if they say the same thing as the dealership?

What do you mean 'backfire'? Too far from GTA, Do you know any service folks at MBHOUSE?

Backfire as in customers will complain that they made that change.
I heard MBHouse is pretty good, honestly speaking don't have any personal experience with them. They are a pretty big MB shop in the GTA but if you are far from the GTA tbh it is not worth it.

That being said, I was able to finally locate the thread, where I mentioned earlier in a post that someone from that thread was able to get it to work by placing the key in the marked spot:
https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...ml#post8422277
Same year as yours, also an All-Terrain so it should work.
You mentioned in a previous post that you tried everything suggested in this thread, but just in case you missed this.

W205c43pfl, I did go to your link, https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...ml#post8422277 and tried every specified routine that konigstiger's 2 pdf's showed. Still cannot get to that darn menu. Am I missing something? Placed the keyfob in holder, shut parking brake off, put in ignition 1 (and also tried in ignition 2) as shown in diagram, held Home button 10 sec, then the 4-arrow button 5 sec and all I get is all the sub menus but no Workshop. Never had this problem when changing the rear pads on the 2018 S Class. So frustrating especially when Cajun Heat said he finally got the menu and has the same 2021 All terrain as I do.

Thank you all again for all your patience.

It certainly is frustrating but you are welcome, we are all here to try to help you. The only difference between you and them is they are located in USA although I really don't think that matters since MBUSA and MB Canada are both managed by MB North America, I don't think there will be drastic changes to the vehicle's programming especially when it comes to things like these.

What you could do is reply to that thread and see if they can help you try different things or you can even PM them if that is what you prefer.

Good luck!

Yes, I was also thinking it was a Canada thing too. I did email 'Cajun Heat' but no response yet. I would so love to prove the dealer wrong in this instance.

FWIW, I have a friend that has a 2021 E 450 sedan but not All-Terrain, that has no issue resetting the service indicator so that does indeed prove your dealership wrong but then makes it a mystery why you couldn't do yours.
