W213 OEM654 CAN-bus problems

The engine warning light in my 2017 S213 All-Terrain with the small 220D engine was lit. However, the car was running w/o showing any signs of trouble.

As the OBD reader indicated problems with the NOx-sensor and the temperatur sensor for the air intake both were replaced and in addition the car got a new battery. Instead of an improvement the engine warning light is still lit and in addition the car is running in some emergency program which allows a maximum of 2.200 rpm and 200 Nm. The OBD reader says "CAN-Datenbus Daten Motorsteuergerät unplausibel" which I would translate to "CAN-bus data of engine ECU inplausible".

My workshop seems to be somehow stuck with the problem. Any hints from this forum regarding a possible cause and a solution for this problem?

"implausible data" fault is temporarily posted when engine is off, diesel or gas.

Use a scanner to retrieve the DTC NUMBER to help understand your diesel issue.

Thx for the input! So, first of all the engine should be running while using an OBD-scanner? My workshop is using an OBD-scanner from Bosch.

The Diagnostic Trouble Code that was retrieved with the engine off was U0401E5 (attachment).

No com error

This error message complains of lack of communications...

When the ECU is powered you'd expect that message to go away. (Electric Steering usually shows that without engine running... totally ok!)

When a CAN bus is down, you are going to get MANY related errors about missing modules. What are the impacted modules, CAN E1 ?

Finally the car went to a Mercedes dealership. With the star scanner they found out that the NOx-sensor used as an replacement wasn't fully compatible with the original part. Mercedes took over the cost of the new part out of obligingness. This came as a pleasant surprise to me as the car is over 4 y old and has run a little over 100.000 km. Next time when it comes to electric troubles I will consult a workshop specializing on Mercedes from the start.

Thx again for your advice.
