Remote Garage Opener Quits Working….

Twice I have programmed my 580 to open our front gate. Both times it has worked for 2-3 days then quits operating. Anyone else have this problem?

I have not had this problem. When this occurs, does it occur at the same time on any other cars (would imply a garage door opener problem) or does it only happen on EQS (it is losing the code)?

We have 8 family vehicles that go through this gate and oddly my SL550 and the ESQ580 are the only ones I am having a problem with at the current time. I don’t think the unit at the gate speaks German. Having to carry hand held remotes in the MB’s until I get it sorted out.

Not sure this will help. The built in systems in cars have recently been upgraded to a higher level of security. I had to add a device to my network to allow older cars to connect with the garage door opener. I would think that Mercedes is using the most up to date system. We have a Liftmaster wireless gate opener and a Chamberlain garage door opener and a Chamberlain hub on the network. The system works flawlessly with the Tesla and our previous Volvo XC90 T8. I recommend you contact Homelink rather then Mercedes as they make the systems that all the car manufacturers use. They can probably help trouble shoot.

If the system is older then that could be the issue. It is unusual. We have an EQS580 and a GLE450 and have no issues with garage door opening on either car.

you might be able to retrofit a smart door opener pad which would take over the rotating code from the unit.

Homelink issues generally occur between older cars and newer garage door/gate openers and not the other way around. Homelink itself is backwards compatible, so a newer car can control older garage door/gate openers with or without rolling codes. But newer Security+ 2.0 garage door/gate openers require a compatible Homelink remote, which the EQS likely has, so it seems odd that you are having issues. Homelink has recently been upgraded to support two-way communication, which the EQS also likely supports, so maybe there's a bug somewhere. How old is your front gate opener? My Liftmaster is now 17 years old and every car up to model year 2019 I've owned so far has had no issues controlling it. I'm using Homelink less and less, though, since I've retrofitted myQ to my Liftmaster and mostly open/close the garage door from my phone now. I'm also about to experiment with Home Assistant, which supports Mercedes me and would allow me to setup an automation that automatically opens my garage door when my car enters the geofence around my house. I'm about to test this today.

The gate opener is 15+ years old. I took the ESQ out to the gate and finally got it to work. The “beam” or signal from the EQS must be very narrow. With the vehicle at the gate and the control box on the gate to the side nothing would work but if I backed up a bit and aimed the ESQ directly at the control box antenna it opened the gate just fine. I will keep trying every time I drive in and out and see if I get a consistent pattern.

I recommend you press the button before you are at the gate. I press mine before I'm in my driveway. The MB Homelink sends out the signal multiple times, so as you drive up to the gate it should reach it and open the gate before you are right in front of it.

There is an antenna that is within the control box for my Lift Master Gate opener. My unit is probably only 3 years old and has worked flawlessly. I am using a solar powered unit that connects with the MyQ via Wi-Fi. I could not be happier with how it works. I do not have experience with the MB EQS as we did not purchase the car that arrived. My Tesla upon arrival about 100 feet away shows the gate icon and the garage icon. I then have to touch which one I want opened. The Volvo worked as well but I seem to recall not as far away as the Tesla. I must have added the hub back when we had an older 2005 Lexus, or perhaps the 2017 Volvo required it.
