Cincy - could you post more pictures? I have ordered the same exterior/interior so am excited to see more of this rear combination. Also did you get the AR HUD? How is it?

Yes. I'll take some additional shots later today. I did the the AR HUD but have not tried it with the Navigation function yet. I think that is the only difference between the regular and AR version. The basic HUD function is amazing in it's clarity and contrast making it very readable and extremely useful for driver awareness. I don't know how I lived without it.

The AR HUD also adds graphics when using the driver’s assist functionality. Try out the Navigation functions, its pretty cool.

Sorry. The Dealer never told me anything except he found them in his system by entering my VIN number into the MB search function and voila!

Can you tell us your thoughts on the differences in luxury between S580 vs. EQS 580?

Aside from the better headroom in the S, the cars are almost identical if you match them for price. If you buy a bare bones S500 the rear will be as spartan as an EQS. However, the S class has more options, so there are a lot more "luxury" items you can stuff the rear of an S class with, for a price! On the other hand, there are some omissions on the EQS that are weird for a "lux" vehicle. You can't get window shades on the rear for any price. There are no roof grab handles. The leather seems a little less opulent. It is quite evident that the EQS was not focused on limousine service but on being first and foremost a cutting edge EV that had an indisputable higher quotient of lux than any other EV on the market.

This is my first awareness of no grab handles in an EQS580. I thought I didn’t have them because I bought the cheap 450+ version.

The 580 SUV has grab handles. For my use grab handles are for vehicles that sit higher where you can use them to help get up to the seat. Why would you need a grab handle on a sedan that sits low to the ground? You turn around backwards and sit in the seat. Same to exit. Put your feet out and stand up. I see no use for grab handles above your head for a low vehicle. If you use it while standing up you have to twist your torso while rising which is very awkward. They are just not ergonomic in a low sitting sedan.

I use the grab handle in my E300 all the time when exiting the car. They are an aid when pulling my torso thru a 90° rotation so that both of my feet are on the ground when exiting to a standing position. I would not purchase a car without grab handles.

You write, "The 580 SUV has grab handles. For my use grab handles are for vehicles that sit higher where you can use them to help get up to the seat. While what you say is true for you, it's not always true for all of us. This is the problem with posting a remark such as yours, based on false or incomplete assumptions.

In our case, my wife is very short, and having become accustomed to using grab handles in her various SUVs over a number of years, and using them in our 2012 S class and in our 2018 S560, she misses them in my 450+. Due to various health conditions, my wife typically drives when we go somewhere together, especially on trips longer than just running errands around our small town. I, too, find myself reaching for a handle in the passenger seat, to reseat myself, so I miss them there as well.

Now, when I drive my 450+, due to age and health, I don't have an easy time entering and exiting either car. In fact, I use two of the three seat memory opportunities to help me - I use #3 - all the way back, and all the way down - to give me maximum clearance to swing my legs in and out of the car. Without a grab handle, I now use a car door hook to assist me in climbing in or out. I use #1 position for my driving position. #2 is for my wife's driving.

Do we manage? Yes. But everything would be easier for us if we had grab handles.

Thanks for reading this post. No apologies necessary for your false assumptions.

If this feature is so important for your needs maybe you should have bought something else.

I consider that a smart a-- non-answer response. I bought the car I wanted. We both love driving the 450+; she says it's the best car we have ever had in our 40 years of marriage.

My point, which you obviously missed completely, is that your incomplete thinking doesn't apply to everyone, as you seemed to have assumed it did.

I have the sedan and i'm always plopping into the car upon entrance. The grab handles would slow my decent, LoL!
