A previous poster is correct. the 450+ is RWD and they will have a 450 4MATIC version in 2023

The '+' denotes "range leader" for the EQS model per Mercedes (i.e. the EQS 450+ has the most range out of all of the options offered)

They would have to ship the 107Kw hour battery pack, that costs $40k. I was told it was unlikely they would have spares here in the US. Most often if that was damaged in an accident, the car would probably be totaled and it's an expensive part to keep in spare.

The average cost per kWH for an automobile battery pack is around $100-120/kwH which would make our batteries about $11000-13000. This was figures from 2021 and I'd imagine prices have gone down even more since then.

Your numbers are low. A Tesla S new battery pack sells for $22,000 not counting labor costs of about $1,000 at 2021 prices. A Nisan LEAF 24kWh pack costs ~$8,000 excluding labor. $40,000 for a Mercedes battery pack is not unreasonable. keep in mind that MB Magic Vision Control wiper blades cost about $175 each. Non-MB blades cost about $20.

I was told by my rep "might cost $40k", I am not certain that they looked up the exact price as the part hasn't been ordered, yet.

Hopefully by the time these batteries run their course a better, lighter more compact type of battery will replace these with better mileage and lower cost. I foresee a day when each electric car will be powered by a mini nuclear reactor the size of a golf ball. Optimistic aren’t I? 😊

EQS 450+
It's a lemon

My EQS 450+ has been with the dealership for over 7 weeks now, and they were unable to figure out the cause of the failure. Yesterday the Mercedes Me app woke up and told me that the car had a passenger side impact over the weekend, and sure enough, the car had been hit by one of the dealership's customers. So that was the straw that broke the camel's back.

Yesterday, after calling my rep and confirming the car was hit, I told my service rep that I was going to start the lemon buy-back process. My rep is a great guy, I don't fault him. I don't really fault the dealership, either. Mercedes was taking their sweet time trying to diagnose my car from Germany.

Funny thing is, today, right after I informed my rep to expect a call about the buy back, he informed me they just got the car running. Strange coincidence, huh? Over 7 weeks, 1 collision, and a notice that I was going to start the process, they found the fix the next day? It turns out it was a software bug the whole time.

It doesn't matter, the collision was the deciding factor for me, and living in California where they have 30 days to make a repair, I don't think they will have much of a choice.

Silver lining? I hope to get a 580 out of this, since my 450+ was one of the rare ones with the Hyperscreen. But now I have to wait 6. to 8 weeks. Sigh.

Well, there was a silver lining after all! Hope your new car arrives soon.
