“Stop and charge 12 volt battery”.

The last several mornings I get the above warning message on the driver’s screen. After a minute or so when I pull out of the garage the message disappears. Does this actually mean that the 12 V battery needs to be charged? Is there anywhere on the Mercedes App that tells you the state of charger of the 12 V battery? Thanks for any replies.

Have you been driving enough lately for the large battery pack to have enough time to charge the small battery up to full?
I still do not trust this technology yet so I carry one of these in the rear area….

To my knowledge, the app does not display the state of charge of the 12v battery. If you are driving regularly, I don't understand why the 12v battery would be low, it is supposed to be charged as you drive by the high voltage battery. If you are not leaving things on in the car, or have some other type of power drain, this would worry me that there might be a defect in the 12v battery, and I would have my dealer check it out.

The SoC of the 12V battery should be displayed under Service in the app. They just recently renamed it to 12V Battery. Used to be called Starter Battery, which was confusing for EVs and MHEVs with 48V batteries.

On my SUV they are still calling it a 12v starter battery with this explanation which is silly for a EV.

There was an update last week, which changed it to 12V battery and changed the explanation. Looks like you are running an older version. Some new features specifically for EVs.

Why isn't the 12V charged at the same time as the HV battery is charging. The same circuitry is there correct?

I’ve been driving the car every day so the 12V battery should be fully charged.
The warning message actually comes on right after I turn the power on. Then it goes away real quick.

Thanks for this. I found it and it says “charged”. So I’m not sure why I get the warning message.

Yep, it's in the App Store. Go to Updates and pull down to check for new updates or wait until it installs on its own.

12V battery issues are a known issue with the EQS. Take it in. I believe there's an update to fix this.

I didn’t get a warning message this morning. I think that the updated software suggested above fixed it.

Have you had any other warning messages? Some have suggested that they can be sort of interconnected.....tire pressure warnings, etc. Some have solved the problems of the warning messages, for instance, just by putting air in their tires, according to other threads. Might be worth a check. But I agree with superswiss, I would get it checked out by the dealer.

The only other warning message I got was at least 6 months ago. I think it had something to do with lane keeping assist but I can’t swear to it. Increasing the tire pressure (recommended on this forum) a tiny amount fixed it.

Well, I thought I wouldn’t see the warning again but I was wrong. Today it showed up again. I have an appointment with the dealer tomorrow.

On occasion new batteries go bad. I’d ask the dealership to install a new 12v battery. They may refuse but it’s worth a try.

The car won't start if it's dead, thus, the misconception.

They already told me that they would replace the battery if defective. No questions asked.

Ya I don't see why they wouldn't the starter battery is covered under the new car warranty, your car is only weeks or months old? There are clear messages showing an error, hopefully you took a picture of the error so they can't use the cannot duplicate excuse. I think you are good. As mentioned new batteries in the vehicles could be defective, as well as the possibility of the battery getting abused (by leaving it discharged after sitting at VPC or any lot for many months before it got to you).

I never got a chance to take a picture since my phone was in my pocket and by the time I got it ready, the message disappeared. This happened multiple times. In any case, it’s a moot point since my dealer treats me very well. I’m going to the dealer in 1.5 hours and when I start the car I’ll have the phone ready to take a picture of the message comes up.
