My car came with the dash cam as an already included option. (I checked the webpage linked above and confirmed that it is a selected active option).
I purchased a USB C 1 tb thumb drive and tried inserting it into the USB plugs below the cupholders (where the open storage area exists) and also in the plugs inside the cupholder area but the car does not seem to read the drive as being present. It was formatted as exFAT and I neither reformatted nor partitioned the drive. I have now reformatted it on my computer (mac) and have tried again, but the car still does not read the drive and says that loop recording requires a drive. Is there some trick i'm missing?

I just plugged my thumb drive in and it worked immediately. Have you gone into the commands on the center screen and turned the option off, then back on to see if that might reset the system?

"The vehicle's ignition must be turned off for activation. Turn the ignition on again after approximately 2 minutes. The menu item "Dashcam" will be redisplayed on the main screen/homescreen of the multimedia system in your Mercedes and will be available for use."
