The AMG ride quality comment is interesting. I love my EQS580, and the overall ride quality is pretty good, I do think there is room for improvement. I need to drive an AMG variant to see if the ride is better over rough pavement.

Has anyone compared the two?

This review of the AMG references the 580 quite a bit.

I don't think the EQS AMG ever offered AMG Active Ride Control. As far as I know, the only EQ models to offer this are the EQE AMG sedan (optionally) and EQE AMG SUV (standard).

It's a real shame. It's a fantastic suspension, light years ahead of Airmatic on its own, and should have been offered on both the EQS AMG as well as non-AMG EQS sedans and SUVs. It would have done wonders for the comfort aspect of these vehicles.

I didn't know that! I assumed it was standard on all AMGs. So I had an EQE AMG SUV loaner with 22" wheels and an EQS 450 SUV loaner for several days each. I found the EQE to be noticably comfier over rough roads even with the 22" wheels. I always check the tire pressure on my rentals and loaners, test drives, etc and both were correctly set.

23' EQS AMG
23' AMG EQS comes standard with Ride Control.

Having said that, I still like my F02 suspension over rough and uneven roads better than the AMG EQS. You feel it more in the EQS whereas the F02 (BMW) is air suspension in the rear, and you don't feel it when going over railroad tracks. The EQS rides like a proper luxury car but drives like a sports car. It's planted when you need it to be in all directions and very smooth at 130+ mph. As my daughter puts it, at 142, it feels like going 80 with the F02. The rough and uneven will does reveal the true weight of the car.

My friend has the 580, and it is smooth luxury but not sporty firm like the AMG. I joke with my friend that it's a perfect evolution coming from BMW's IAS/ARS system.

it comes standard with AMG Ride Control + which is AMG tuned Airmatic. It is not the same as “AMG Active Ride Control” which is an additional feature ON TOP OF AMG Ride Control + (AMG Airmatic)
