Extended Warranty (SL AMG)

First off I hope I'm not stepping on any toes, but after extensive searching and looking around I thought I was toast regarding extending my warranty on a 2009 SL63. I called everyone but couldn't find the right coverage or the right deal. After being told 100000 times that I couldn't extend my warranty thru MBZ I found the one guy who knows the skinny, and he was able to extend my warranty thru Mercedes CPO for an additional 2 years and up to 135k miles. (and for less than any third party quote I got).

I'm hoping that this helps anyone that is in my situation.

What did you pay?!

AMG 17GT 04-03-2013 10:31 PM

This is not good. I hate to be the one who tells you this. It is my understanding that mb warranty recently excluded strut coverage on their own cars.

Should have gone with Zurich or easycare. This is the top problem on these cars at 1600 a piece.

Curious .......what does master certified really mean?

I was quoted $5700-$6500 thru third party coverage, I got it for 30% less. The MBZ warranty works exactly as the warranty you get when you get the car new, but your right there are some exception's. I like the no hassle policy, every time I needed it I was in and out of the dealership with no out of pocket. I have the wheel and tire warranty as well which has paid for itself 5 times over (5 tires and 2 wheels).

carcommander 04-04-2013 10:30 PM

I extended the warranty on my 09 as well for 2 years it was about 4500 thru Mercedes Benz.

Good news...can anyone verify that strut info where they dont cover? I hear Penske also does warranties for MB..

I can confirm struts are not covered.

AMG 17GT 04-05-2013 05:39 PM

When your own manufacturer doesn't cover the very thing that has plagued these cars should tell you to get them under warranty. They are literally selling struts they know are faulty.

It's a wonder that no class action has been taken on the entire ABC system. It's an admission of fault on Mercedes part.

We're you advised of this by the master tech??? Probably not. I would try to change your coverage and get the master to credit back to another company. The 2 front struts will cost probably what you paid for your warranty .....so now Mercedes is the third party? The irony.

EXTENDED WARRANTIES CONT'D

Great thread with interesting info. Amazing that MBZ won't cover it's own faulty product.

A few people have contacted me about warranty information. I have no affiliation with this group, but I've had great luck with MOPAR, which is a subsidiary of the Chrysler corporation. They cover everything, except gasoline, oil, and filters!!! Just took the car in for new COMAND UNIT, 1 power top cyliner, power top pump, and driver's door lock + labor. My cost $125 ($100 deductible + a few nuts and bolts they didn't cover). "MAX CARE PLUS WARRANTY" COST: $10,000.

No fuss. No arguments. Warranty transferable one time. Previous owner bought car in 2008 with ~27,000. Got this 5 yr/50,000 warranty. Big issue: I don't know how much he paid, but frankly, even if he paid $5 to $10,000 (which I highly doubt he paid $10k), it was still worth it. 2 weeks before I bought the car he had it in for right rear strut/ABC system : $1900.

The warranty is worth checking out.

Cheers,
Jason

AMG 17GT 04-06-2013 09:29 AM

You bring up a good point about the car you purchased from previous owner. The car having warranty coverage is probably worth 2k or more to a potential buyer if it is indeed transferable. I'm sure this influenced your decision to buy as well.

Also, I know people don't always like easycare, but my service advisor has been at dealership for 16 years and she has a lengthy relationship with them. My last CL had over 14 k in repairs over 4 years and my cost of warranty was about 3 k then.

Prices have risen significantly, however, it should be noted that easycare gold covers wheels and tires. I don't want to know what my 20's cost.

The warranty does not cover everything except gas oil and filters. No extended warranty does, although the exclusionary level of coverage is very good.

However, Chrysler no longer covers Mercedes, so that's a dead issue unfortunately.

MB no longer covers struts under their ELW or CPO programs. Which (and I agree with Romeo) is shocking.

Fidelity is probably the best warranty solution for the combination of good claims paying experience, good coverage (including struts), willing to cover 12-cylinder and AMG models, and reasonable pricing.

If anyone needs a quote feel free to contact me at brucem105@comcast.net.

+1 for Fidelity. I will never own another car without a fidelity warranty. They have been fantastic.

I always thought you guys across the pond got the best deal. I paid 1200
Quid for extended warranty, then I sold it. I am sure it covered struts, I
Had to replace 2 on my SL 55 at over a grand each.Time to buy a new car :D

Extended Warranty

+3 for Fidelity. I've used them 2 separate times with no hassle.

okbarnett 05-18-2013 05:21 PM

aside from the terms, I found out MB cpo may cost different in different states. I found 1yr in Georgia is $1795. I found 1yr cpo in Florida cost $2795. (2yr, about doubles)
BUT, check with your dealer in your state.
In Florida, before the cpo has expired, if you sell your car, or just decide you want your money back, or for what ever reason; you get a refund.
Not so in Ga, etc

they do in fact cover E55 Amgs as I received an email from them. They quoted me 3/36 for about $4000 for a 2006 E55 with 45k miles. This is the full bumper to bumper coverage.

Extended warranty

What's the skinny with the extended warranty. I need to extend my warranty on my 2003 SL 500 immediately

V12TTenthusiast 10-30-2013 10:19 PM

+4 for Fidelity so far claimed $7000 with no issues, and looks like another 4kish when my cat are all clogged up in 2-3 weeks id say

megatron. 12-04-2013 10:40 AM

Which level of Fidelity warranty did you guys purchase and what was the pricing? I am shopping for an extended warranty for my 06 SL55

V12TTenthusiast 12-04-2013 07:08 PM

Platinum 4 yrs or 50k miles which ever came first with $100 deductable and paid $3,700 at 38k miles

The claim list got bumped up from 7k to 10k with the dynamic pump ($500) and both my ignition coils blown out ($2,400) glad I got the warranty now lol

pjdough 12-06-2013 07:35 AM

My Fidelity Platinum was transferred from previous owner. I don't have a copy handy, but believe it was good for 5 years, 100k - cost was $6+k. He bought it in 2010; 05 65 had ~30k miles at the time.
